What's Buzz-worthy: I recently picked up a pair of these second-year Cooperstown boxes as they are loaded with notable ink among the possibilities and have been drying up ... unfortunately, this box was the better of the pair. It had a somewhat-plentiful Al Kaline auto (vs. a super-plentiful Dennis Eckersley last time) to get it an A- box grade, but otherwise it wasn't that flashy of a break despite there being a lot of variety and volume as usual. At least everything features Hall of Famers. ... As I noted last time I ripped this (hit the tag for this set below), this second set isn't as strong visually in my mind vs. the first -- that one is a landmark release for Hall of Fame sets -- but it has a lot of possibilities. ... When you land a big name, you pay for a box or two and that's helped the prices on these rise more of late ... a good auto used to pay for a few boxes of this one, though. ... Among ink here? Ernie Banks, Phil Niekro, Frank Robinson, Bob Gibson, Tony Gwynn, Jim Bunning, Lou Brock, Willie McCovey, Don Sutton, Tom Seaver, Tommy Lasorda, Whitey Ford, Whitey Herzog and Yogi Berra. (And plenty of others.) I prefer the first year but the ink here is strong in spots ... and that'll keep me ripping when boxes are cheaper. Once these boxes get higher in price? Much, much more risky -- a lot of hit and miss if you go over a certain price ripping into these for the autos. There are some long-odds finds to look for, too, but I've not pulled any. Maybe next time.

Product Grade: B
Box Grade:
A- (Kaline auto is better than a lot of 'em, but not a top-tier card since it's high-volume)
Fun Grade: B
