What's Buzz-worthy: It's Throwback Thursday around here so I figured I'd pick off a pack of this standout from the past that has plenty of stars, a big Rookie Card in Ken Griffey Jr. (among others) and one of the biggest cards in history, the Billy Ripken FF error where a bad word was physically written on the knob of his bat and made it into packs before it was noticed and a firestorm of pack ripping ensued as well as a wave of correction versions that can also be pricey. This pack? Not bad with Ryan, Schmidt, Boggs, Mattingly and others here as well as one of the many oddball error cards. It's a simple pack -- and one that I normally would open in bulk form -- but at $4.25 there's really nothing in here beyond Griffey and Ripken (which I have) do go in hard. (For me ... I've opened plenty then and even in recent years ... with some strong results like when I pulled two FF cards in a much-cheaper cello box as part of a 24-hour break marathon.) Would I do that again? Sure, at a cheaper price ... but the cost vs. reward ratio now isn't as strong as it used to be ... just like a lot of the cardboard here vs. way back then. Griffey and Ripken are timeless, though.
