What's Buzz-worthy: I'm a sucker for retail repacks and this one is a higher-end, hits-focused repack that actually is available via the site at a lower price (link above) than when it was previously found at Target years ago. That's a good thing in this case as this one had one card that makes it and the rest is typical football prospect fodder -- hit and miss. (In this case, miss.) The 2002 Score QBC Materials pack was the gem in this one -- it's a memorabilia-only release with jerseys and footballs used during the Quarterback Challenge, a skills competition that had the biggest names in the game throwing chalk-marked footballs at moving targets among other things. The cool thing here? These slabbed memorabilia cards can be found with jersey and ball swatches covered in the memorable blue chalk. This particular pack included a patch card of Peyton Manning and about the only thing that could top that would be a patch covered with chalk -- look closely at his jersey in the photo. (Then again, is that a hint of blue on the white? Maybe.) These QBC packs were originally $19.99 and include 42 different cards -- all hits -- with five rarer autographs also among the possibilities (Jake Plummer, Steve Young, Warren Moon, Aaron Brooks and John Elway). Other QBs of note in the set include Donovan McNabb, Bernie Kosar, Boomer Esiason, Jim Kelly and Doug Flutie. ... The other packs in this repack here were a bit of a bummer as the Sweet Spot pack definitely did some bouncing around inside its tin in the seven years since it was made, while the other pack was typical. The extra hits here are names that didn't pan out. Possible autographs of note in Sweet Spot include Von Miller, J.J. Watt, Colin Kaepernick, Andy Dalton, Cam Newton, Mark Ingram, Julio Jones, Barry Sanders, Adrian Peterson, Drew Brees, Dan Marino, John Elway, Jim Kelly and even ESPN's Chris Mortensen. (The NFL veterans are much rarer pulls and the rookie checklist is very deep here, so this pack is the norm.) All in all, the QBC pack delivered and that bailed out this repack. It's worth a rip for the QBC pack alone in my mind -- I almost wish they were available by themselves.
Product Grade: A (good potential)
Box Grade: A (thanks solely to the Manning)
Fun Grade: B (these can be risky as football rookie autos often don't age well)
