Double Mat Relics (1) – Roman Reigns (/50)

What's Buzz-worthy: This box delivered pretty well with a rarer double Relic for a top star, a numbered parallel and some strong names across the board. It's not the flashiest box, but it's an A box. ... As said before, the formula of recent years works here -- and it works pretty well -- with a couple of tribute sets (one depending on where you buy ... this was a Walmart box) and an array of parallels. The new insert here -- one that I think is relatively unique and helps this one -- is Evolution, a set that takes us through the various iterations of a character or characters a wrestler has used. Some of the inclusions there are ones I don't think have seen cardboard before. The photography here is pretty solid in some spots but this one just felt like it needed something more. The parallels are colorful and easy to spot, but do feel a little bit bland. ... There are belt Relics to be found in these (a negative to me) along with the mat and shirt Relics and, more importantly, you do get a shot at autographed Relics and other hits like printing plates at longer odds. (One in 85 boxes on plates, one at 236 boxes and up for a few versions of ink.) I'll undoubtedly tear into more of these in the coming weeks, though hobby is the stronger and safer bet for your buck with an autograph in every box. The names you don't see in this one -- notably Ronda Rousey -- means you'll probably get them all in Series 2 this fall. All in all, this one's on par with flagship sets of recent years, I just feel like these need some "other" type of card to mix things up and add to the variety -- something as simple as a fold-out card. Otherwise, it's a strong basic brand that offers a good amount of first-time cards -- and a few first-time autos -- along with the hits.
