What's Buzz-worthy: Why am I ripping here? This set is the home of one very notable newcomer -- the No. 1 overall pick in last year's MLB Draft, Jackson Holliday -- on his first official MiLB cardboard. Now, that doesn't have as much oomph as it might in the distant past with USA Baseball and Bowman Draft releases from last year (or other airbrushed prospect stuff he might have) but these sets, even if somewhat plentiful for MiLB releases will still be less-plentiful than any of the in-pack stuff. What makes this one worth a rip and a Buzz Break? The team opted to do parallel cards here -- one card per set -- with every player possible on Gold (/41), Orange (/20), Red (/5) and 1/1 Platinum versions. That means, in theory, that there are only (or at most) 2,278 sets made. Odds here? Golds are one in 1.67 sets (or every other set) while Orange is one in 3.33 (one in four), Red is one in 13 and Platinum is one in 67. Holliday, the son of a former big-leaguer, isn't the only notable here, either, but as a debut MiLB card I like its feel the best. The sets are $15 but the team ran a Twitter promotion where with a high-scoring Super Bowl there was a steep discount and then with a missed field goal in the big game a bonus item was a free set of this one ... so you'll see more of these here. (I grabbed four and got one free.) The serial-numbers on these cards are not stamped -- they are printed on the card -- so that's an interesting twist here that makes things unique instead of cards that are marked as "one of XX" or had to be machine stamped. Other teams might have done this -- and the team's 2021 update set with some good names has a similar approach, too -- but I think it's a good move. A rare parallel of a big name like Holliday could be a big deal now or down the line if he turns out to be a star of No. 1 pick caliber.
Product Grade: A (A MiLB set with a parallel chase? What took so long ... )
Lot Grade: A- (one easy parallel, one slightly rarer one)
Fun Grade: B+ (they are still sets ... but the combo of names and parallels helps here)
