What's Buzz-worthy: A new season and a new era starts now but one thing that we still could see but might not going forward is NBA Hoops, which is a league-owned trademark (as far as I understand it) that has been around for a long, long time via at least three companies beginning with the league's expansion era for cardboard and debut set in 1989-90. With no new Topps in-hand -- and with a confession that I'm not heavy on personally collecting basketball these days (can't collect it all) -- I opted for a trio of these packs, which are from the brand that probably started my more-serious dabbling all those years ago. (I opened some 1988-89 Fleer but it wasn't baseball and I only briefly found packs at a single out-of-the-way gas station. Hoops was readily available when it arrived.) Hoops hobby delivered an autograph in every single box (you won't see that this year, either, so far unless you do jumbos) so that's a reason it's long gone but there are a number of options out there that can all include stuff ... and even this single pack included a pair of advanced finds for what is ultimately a very collector-friendly, budget-friendly release. This one included a Premium Stock card as well as a numbered card -- and I'm confident that the other formats will offer up even more. If you land a key name in a spot like that you may be in good shape as the multiple formats and volumes made can really spread things out here -- plus it's not a small set. These packs are pretty consistent so it's just a matter if you land a serial-numbered card or not and then which color of flashy parallels might pop up. There's a lot to find here and now that the calendar has turned to another season attention might be elsewhere ... so the big stuff from the not-so-distant past might still be in there and findable at a better price, depending on when and where you look.
