Constellations Autographs Super Prismatic Gold Pre-production Proof (1) – Naomi Osaka (1/1)
What’s Buzz-worthy: I picked off a group of these multi-sport packs recently for some extra surprise factor when ripping -- plus, it's hard to beat sub-$5 1/1 packs -- and for some quick and easy variety here just like the women's set packs I've opened heavily, too. (Look for both sprinkled in here in the coming weeks.) This one? It started strong with this pack and parallel, which is Leaf's version of the Superfractor (same stock, different name) and a pretty notable name from the tennis world attached. In the regular release of this one, all cards are 1/1 autos and then these are, too, but the slight difference here is how the volume of parallels per card in this one -- which is kept for the proofs -- is smaller and the checklist even more fractured as it covers a lot of bases but in smaller groups per player. While other releases have several colors and then several textures across each/most cards, this card in this release appears to only have three versions -- this one, Crystal and Super Silver Purple Flood -- and no others. In all, Osaka appears to only have 11 different cards in this release but with a full lineup of colors for some, but not all of them. (I think many assume that proof sets like this are really 20-plus 1/1 cards per card and that is the case for some ... but not all.) Osaka's autos here aren't all that pricey -- perhaps reflective of her roller-coaster of ups and downs on the court and career as well as a minimalist almost checkmark auto -- and the proofs really aren't at times, either, but I'm ripping these for fun and the surprise and variety that might be found. (This set includes stars from sports with less cardboard as well as traditional sports like baseball, basketball and football.) These Gold cards are perhaps the version with the most demand, too, but her place in tennis history as a four-time Grand Slam winner won't diminish even if she never adds another win to that total. As I've noted on other breaks like this, I like this approach as it's something that could trend affordable while remaining unique and something that could pique the interests of a lot of collectors out there. There's a lot to find here as you'll see in my upcoming packs -- and you never know how interest for stuff like this might grow over time once the packs are no longer easily found.

Pack Grade: A+ (Super Prismatic Gold is perhaps the best find here)
Fun Grade: A (only one card ... so these will be hit and miss)
