Black Wave Pre-production Proof (1) – Gracie Hunt (1/1)
What’s Buzz-worthy: "Who's Gracie Hunt?" was the first thing I said when this one arrived in a pack and it turns out there's a reason why I didn't -- but probably should -- know the name. She's the daughter of Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt and a mainstay at games sometimes alongside Taylor Swift and then has influence and followings elsewhere with an NFL clothing deal, a Maxim magazine cover, etc. It goes beyond that, of course and here's a People magazine profile. It's not unusual to find some influencers from pop culture on cardboard and that's not a bad thing here -- it's something different and at least it ties to the sports realm. Her autographed cards from Leaf regularly sell for $60 and up, while proofs like this can vary but will probably pay for the pack it came from -- that doesn't always happen here even with everything being a 1/1. Unique cardboard -- as in subjects without a lot of cards -- can always be a win depending on followings.
As I noted before, I got my hands on another batch of these for a good price -- it's hard to beat sub-$6 1/1 packs -- just for some quick and easy variety and just in case I landed some better names on interesting cards. ... Why open? This set is a landmark one with its focus -- a set focusing on women's sports stars and others around the sports realm -- and ripping a box or two is on my radar. ... The backs are blank here an ink doesn't happen here, of course, but a lot of big names are possible and that's part of the appeal to me with these -- the wide array of possibilities with everything being a 1/1. ... There are many varieties per card with all the colors and textures and in this case the proofs are not in stickered-shut top-loaders this time -- that might tweak the feel here slightly -- but overall, I like this approach as it's something that could trend affordable while remaining unique and something that could pique the interests of a lot of collectors out there. There's a lot to find here as you'll see in my upcoming packs.
