What's Buzz-worthy: My first impressions of Heritage in-hand via three hangers and one previous giant box were not strong -- colorful but simply bland and light on oomph -- but this one shows how perhaps things can run for the better here with a decent run of stars, a bit better run of rookies and then some star power among the inserts but still light on something bigger on that front. It's probably my best box of the year for this one ... but not that great considering all I've seen since being a regular ripper of H since its debut in 2001. I'll probably wait to do more ... or grab a hobby box if I see a situation where the price is right down the line. ... This one didn't deliver exactly as the odds say they should for the format (it was close) but I landed one fewer inserts than last time. The larger format here gave a better view of the mix and the possibilities for sure -- way better than hangers for the variety as those basically have two inserts and the rest base -- but the vast amount of stuff here was just base fodder ... though with more names to pull out. As I said in my other breaks, it just feels like this brand is one that needs to be adding to its lineup as it finishes off the late-1970s if the goal is to sell more ... this one still needs more. It needs to deliver more ... or at least deliver cleanly. The stock here is light and chippy -- too light and chippy -- while the backs are often too dark to read things on them, which isn't ideal, either. The printing and cutting is cleaner than 1975, though, and the colorful yet industrial spirit of the 1975 design comes through here for sure. The design is arguably better than much of the last five years for Heritage. Hobby is still your best way to go here for sure. Had this box been my first rip? I'd probably have done more than I have so far. We'll see for the rest of the year -- I do think High Series could be fun if it amps up the newcomers like usual and has more nods to 1975 ... or if it breaks from the past formula and adds more, more, more to the H lineup.
Product Grade: B
Box Grade: A- (much better crop of rookies and base stars this time vs. last time)
Fun Grade: B (better names but not any truly bigger/rarer finds in this one)
