What's Buzz-worthy: I picked off this $59.99 book online since I had an enticement rewards program that offered a $25 credit for an order that day but for some reason that didn't work (I'll probably have to check the offer exclusions list next time) ... but then that was the least of my worries once this arrived and I opened the packs. Before that, I'll preface this as I think this is a top-notch kind of creation for a player who was a cultural force upon arrival in the WNBA ... but last season's injuries derailed things a bit in my mind, so the timing here might not be as strong, but it's still an A-plus kind of project. Now, though, to this copy. ... It's an 100-card set with parallels and some chase cards in the mix but with eight packs of four cards you only get 32 per book. All good on that math. The bad math here? I landed 13 base cards from the 100-card set and 11 more base cards that were duplicates -- sometimes landing even two copies of the same card in the same pack. Atop my collation, nearly all of my parallel cards had foil stamping that slid down where it shouldn't be with one being an obviously botched card (at right). It happens ... but I feel like it shouldn't here with this being a special project of its own. ... Beyond that, I landed my six Holos and two versions of Red parallels, which seem to be the default. You can also land some serial-numbered parallels in these but there was nothing for me this time. The cards are relatively clean on a thin but harder stock where corners might have some compression issues but not fraying, while the foilboard will foilboard with edge nicks and spotting. Had this one not had a brick for collation, it would be a comfortable high-B or low-A box grade with more variety among the base. Will I do another? Probably not with this experience but had it been cleaner I might have -- I like the project but this execution is like a lot of recent-year stuff ... I decide to fork over the cash and run into sloppy cards or sloppy packaging and that just makes me regret eeven looking at it as it's not something in my core of collecting interest. However, the upside here is nice if you land an autograph or rarer parallels/inserts ... so that's one more reason to consider it.
Product Grade: A+ (concept and set are solid and a nice innovation)
Box Grade: C- (collation for this book's packs was a trainwreck ... though I have seen other breaks not like this)
Fun Grade: C- (all about the collation and issues)
