Variant

The Rundown (all books in gallery below)
-- 100 assorted comics (all eras & publishers VF/NM on most)
-- At least two signed comics from Collector's Paradise signings
-- At least three exclusive cover variants made for Collector's Paradise
-- At least one "special treatment" comic book (foil covers, plastic covers, holograms, etc.)

The Results: I received what was to be delivered for the bonuses and almost a dozen variants, too. A total of 106 books -- a mere 56.5 cents per book after shipping. (Click images in the gallery for a closer look.)

What's Buzz-worthy: I found this via a California comics chain called Collector's Paradise with these boxes guaranteeing all there is above for $49.99 plus shipping. (An original price was double that ... I wouldn't bite at that one.) Buzz loves a good mystery box on the cheap, so I figured why not with the bonuses seeming interesting as, well, I don't have a big comics shop nearby to do bargain bin digging. (Plus, I'm way too selective if I did ... it would be a lot of the same few titles or areas.) This allowed me to pick up a good volume of books across the board to see styles, characters, designs and more from publishers of the past and present. This one included almost a dozen variant covers from newer DC and Marvel titles and it also included stuff back into the 1980s and 1990, too, with most all being clean and tight, though a few were rougher fillers (a definite minority) or discolored older books. This one was cheap and bulky enough I actually had my second one of these arrive yesterday and you'll see it here at some point, too, with an oddly and interestingly different mix vs. this one. My second one skewed older and had more classics than perhaps this one did. The books arrive in a box without bags or boards -- except for the bonus books or signed books so that helps them stand out -- so there can be minor damage here and there from that if yours gets roughed up in the mail. (My second box had a number of books with color rubs on covers as that one took a pretty good postal beating -- and that made some of the new books not good beyond some reading value. This box was quite clean.) I'm very casual as a collector of comics -- essentially, I'll sort through these and then do some bagging and then put the better ones together and then box 'em all away. At the price, these are pretty good for a newb like me (card guy who's dabbling) or for a re-seller on the cheap or in similar smaller lots. I think I found some nice books here and there and this lot did have a lot of 1990s stuff that might not appeal to the serious, regular buyers. But, for the price, there's a lot more here vs. cover prices for new stuff at shops today or a couple retail blasters right now. Basically, I'll mix things up for the fun of it and for the variety of the ol' stash -- besides, I've found some really good books in past repacks ... next month's Making The Grade will include two big books I found in scenarios just like this and I have a couple other notables from repacks in CGC's hands now.

Product Grade: A (good volume for the price)
Lot Grade:
A (I think this delivered well for my casual taste here)
Fun Grade: B+ (fun for this price ... not sure I'd pay the typical price)
