Buzz Buys: A few cardboard debuts, new autos, early TV items, bonus cards, Tiffy Time, old stuff & more for familiar names

Buzz buys and busts a lot of boxes right here for Buzz Breaks, but one of my goals is to rip a little less and talk more about cardboard that I -- and you -- might like. One way to do that? Simple show and tell -- present a few pick-ups and say why they captured my attention.

So, with all that said, here are a few Buzz Buys ...

GOING HIGH-END ...
The Card: Bo Bichette 2020 Bowman Transcendent (/100) -- Rookie Card
The Price: Less than some retail mega boxes ...
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: While this comes from one of the most-expensive brands ever made and he's a past All-Star, a bad season apparently prompts easy sell-offs these days and in this case I was a buyer. While I'd like his RCs from these releases in slabs (the frames and Chome-like surfaces here can show smaller flaws easily) this one was too cheap to pass up in comparison to slabbed cards that weren't even in elite grades. This cost me half or even a third of common asking prices for the graded cards with no obvious, blatant flaw to make it feel like it would check in lower ... though it's not perfect. It's a perfect start for me here -- I'll likely add more if The Big Bo Slide of 2024 keeps going. Why? I collect Bichette.

METALMANIA!
The Card:
Shotzi Blackheart 2023 Panini Impeccable WWE Stainless Stars Autographs Orange (/25)
The Price:
$50
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
The metallic inserts and autos from some Panini America releases of the last few years have not captured my attention as much as they might have for others -- I think I have picked off a small a handful when on the cheap but nothing bigger in price. This one? I grabbed it with another price-is-right scenario due to injury. These don't scan or even necessarily photograph all that well, but this being a parallel with all that color I bit. I was impressed with it one once in-hand, though it does have a couple of minor spots on the surface -- the scan made it look like there would be even more. Since I collect Shotzi, this one was a win to me either way as it's something rarer without spending too much.

I'M SOLD ON THIS PREVIEW SET
The Card: Dita Von Teese 2024 Wild Card Decades Preview Proof Cracked Ice Graffiti (/8)
The Price: Price of a pack at the show
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: These one-card packs are pretty much my favorite thing from The National so far, and my rips have paid off well, too, so do a Decades search at the link below if you're interested in something with this one. I picked up this card for the price of a pack early on just to see how they looked in-hand, and they are crisp and clean creations with a lot of flash. Why this card? It was a combo of price (no premium fee vs. a pack) and the fact that she doesn't have a lot of cardboard. Ironically, when I went to rip into my handful of packs for Buzz Breaks a few days later she was the first face I saw ... but that one was a 1/1.

MODERN RETRO
The Card:
Michael Harris II 2024 Topps Series 1 1989 Topps Baseball Relics
The Price:
$3
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
The 1989 re-dos in this year's flagship are a bit of continued overkill if you ask me -- it seems there have been 1980s throwbacks with 1989 among them in sets for more than a decade now and I didn't like that set the first time around to be honest. But ... this year's somehow seem a little crisper and cleaner with colors that pop and images that seem a little tighter in their selections for their use while showcasing current as well as past stars. Is this Harris perfect? No -- I would have slid him slightly more to the right to get more of the batting arm in -- but it's not far off otherwise with a memorabilia piece in play to take the ol' 1989 look to another level. For $3 I bit easily and with the box SRPs, odds and typical pulls I need to just singles shop more and land closer to precisely what I want vs. rip and hope for something I like.

LANDED THE CASE
The Case:
GradedGuard slab case for CGC-graded cards
The Price:
Free (randomly selected color was a throw-in from a seller with a slabbed card buy)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This case was a freebie and I figured I'd show it off here this time as, well, I really liked the added depth these give to the look of slabs. While I'm more of a sleeve it and box it slab collector -- I display nothing -- I get that with shows and collectors/kids on the go and showing off stuff there's likely a market here. The phone case vibes here are strong with the rubberized frame and then a front panel of plastic to protect things, while the back is merely the back of the slabbed case. The pink seemed fitting for a strong Tiffy Time slab so here we are. I hadn't really looked into this stuff a lot, but I might grab a few of these at cheaper prices for a small crop of elite-grade slabs in my stash.

ROLL TIDE
The Cards:
Justin Thomas (and Tiger Woods) 2021 SP Authentic cards
The Price:
Less than $1 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This pairing of cards -- and stars -- was dirt cheap and I grabbed them both for a spot in my Alabama Crimson Tide stash, though Thomas had cards well before (2016) this "rookie" card. Golf isn't that high on my radar other than heavy ripping of 2001 boxes about 20 years ago when one could find a sealed case for $100 or less (occasional firesales) and then some releases where ink flowed very well. Generally speaking, I try to pick off an RC, an auto and a mem card of any Roll Tide name if they have them and then other stuff if it presents itself. Thomas ink has eluded me but that's only because I just haven't ponied up cost-wise. I own a pair of Woods autos I pulled from packs back in the day but not the ink of the best player from my school ... go figure. Of course those boxes I landed Woods in were a fraction of the starting price for SRPs now and those cost me less than a Thomas auto would.

IT'S ALWAYS TIFFY TIME
The Card:
Tiffany Stratton autographed 2023 Panini Prizm WWE (BAS witnessed via WWE Shop)
The Price:
$59.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Like the label above says, it's always Tiffy Time around here and this pickfrom WWE Shop was an easy one with her certified autos often costing more than this with sticker autos you have to watch out for at times quality-wise. There's no running off the sticker here and that white paint pen really pops. (The card is clean, the lines you see at left are in the case's inner surface above the sleeve.) I like that these note that they were witnessed autos -- no chance of an authentication opinion being wrong -- so that's why I bit on this and one other. (So ... look for more Tiffy Time next time. She might even be champ by then.)

LEGENDARY ALTERNATIVE FIND
The Card:
Hank Aaron 2008 Donruss Americana II Headliners (/500)
The Price:
$2
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
The early Americana sets were strong non-sports brands with a wide array of inclusions from both entertainment as well as sports and this relatively rare insert of an icon was a no-brainer at this price. It's slab worthy though I didn't submit it immediately with all that foilboard. It's not 10-caliber perfect but a slab of this would make it about $15 cost ... and if it's a decent enough mark it gives it a feel that's stronger than that if you ask me.

LIVIN' IN [BASEBALL] AMERICA
The Mags:
Baseball America June/July 2024 featuring Charlie Condon, August 2017 featuring Vladimir Guerrero Jr. & Bo Bichette & a free bonus issue
The Price:
$23 plus shipping ... but worth it with the bonus cards
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Buzz got curious about whether the magazine's online store would include copies of the issue containing all of the bonus baseball cards ... and, yes, it does. I threw in the Bichette issue, too, since it's cheap and early while the freebie issue came with the new one if I remember correctly. (As you can see by the teams shown that one's not the best issue for some fans ... maybe yours will be better.) These were all mailed in a large, heavy, oversized photo mailer so everything arrived minty fresh for the new issue, while the Bichette was a little roughed up from its archival past before shipping. (Their larger format with light paper back then meant easy spine damage. The new issue now is quite nice.)

A BIG STORM COMING
The Item:
Mariah May autographed 11-by-14 Toni Storm-style metallic-print photo (High Spots)
The Price:
$39.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
The rivalry between "Timeless" Toni Storm -- a retro Hollywood character in every way these days -- and her protégé who last wrestled in Japan before taking on Storm's old Mötley Crüe-inspired rocker aesthetic in AEW has been absolutely one of the best things the company has ever done. (Men's or women's action.) It's had all kinds of dirty limericks from the Timeless one, innuendo from them and others, mind games and even blood -- a lot of blood, actually -- after a double-cross. Before that last one I grabbed this oversized auto from High Spots as I hadn't landed any May ink -- she barely has any cards let alone certified autos right now -- and then the double-cross happened that made this one even more ironic. I liked the Storm feel here -- they can easily pass for each other if you're not paying attention and they're in gear -- and then she kind of double-signed it. On a lot of her items, the circular swirl seen here is the autograph and that's one reason why I hadn't bothered to chase down an auto before this. Having both makes it a little stronger, though I would have liked a bigger, bolder auto on a bigger item like this ... maybe on the left. It's OK, I already have my eye on a sequel or two to go with this at some point, though with their split and big match coming very soon there may or may not be more autos like this.

SOME BO WITH FLAIR
The Cards:
Bo Bichette 2023 Topps Chrome Sapphire Edition, 2023 Bowman Chrome Sapphire Edition & 2023 Topps Cosmic Chrome Nucleus Refractor
The Price:
About $5 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Remember when Sapphire was the biggest deal in Chrome and a limited release back in 2016, 2017, 2018 and so on? I do ... and I barely dabbed there but I still need to. More recent years are more findable so I picked off a pair of Bichettes from last year for the stash along with a newer Chrome brand that I really like in a lot of ways but except for the box's suggested retail price. Topps Fire basically became Cosmic Chrome and, yes, it's solid ... but I don't have a lot of players I would look for to justify opening a box at that price. Singles again.

EARLY ROLES
The Item:
Deborah Tucker, Halle Berry, Allison Elliott & Leah Remini in Living Dolls (1989) ABC promotional photo
The Price:
About $6.50
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Buzz was watching plenty of TV back in 1989 -- likely while sorting cards -- but all I vaguely remembered of this one was its name as this show came and went in just four months on ABC as a bomb of sorts, despite apparently being a Who's The Boss? spin-off. Why did this jump out at me when scrolling promo photo listings? It looked early ... and it is. Scroll through Berry's credits on IMDb and this one pops up as her first. Flip over to Remini and it's just her third -- and it's a long way from The King of Queens. The other two? A debut or a second role ... and they're both still out there working, though you might not know their names. The pilot for this series included Vivica A. Fox but she was replaced by Berry ... so there were a few names here who went on to notable roles later. It seemed like a solid item for that price.

BETTER BRAND, LOW-END PRICE
The Card:
Chris Boucher 2019-20 NBA Hoops Premium Stock Hoops Ink Prizm autograph
The Price:
$2
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This auto itself isn't worth my time or your time if you ask me, but this brand's simple flash and clean hues got me to look and I put in a first bid to watch it since it was cheap ... and, well, nobody else did. I like the overall feel and look here for sure -- and he's got school ties for me -- but, well, that's one of those infamously weak autos out there. If I didn't have a tie here, it'd be a 110-percent pass on all his autos.

SHORT AUTO, LONG PUNISHMENT
The Card:
Jontay Porter 2019-20 Panini Contenders Draft Picks Draft Ticket Red Foil autographs
The Price:
$2.75
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This is a weak auto, too, but he's here for a different reason. In April Porter was banned by the NBA for gambling with alleged betting on games, including for his team (Toronto Raptors) to lose. He's the first NBA player to be banned for gambling since the 1950s and he's facing federal charges as part of a group related to all of this. (I didn't read up hard on it ... I just grabbed an auto to add some cheap scandal trivia to my stash and so I could add a reminder of it all here.) He doesn't have a boatload of autos and some are pricier now. I don't see a lot of long-term interest here but he's definitely got a place in NBA history now.

GOING FOR THE GOLD
The Card:
Nick Swisher 2013 Panini Select Select Team Gold Prizm (/25)
The Price:
$5
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This rarer insert parallel popped up on the cheap and I grabbed it with no hesitation. Why? For whatever reason these cards -- regular or parallel -- just don't seem to pop up that often for my player. Part of that is that it's a small rainbow -- base, Silver, Gold and 1/1 Black -- but I'm not even sure I own the base version.

THE MOMENT ... BUT THE OTHER SIG?
The Item:
Saraya/Paige autographed AEW debut photograph via Big Event NY (JSA witnessed)
The Price:
$18.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This moment -- Saraya's surprise arrival in AEW after she was never expected to wrestle again after some serious neck injuries at age 25 -- remains one of my favorites for anything in wresting in recent years. She doesn't yet have a boatload of AEW cards -- some but not enough thanks to delays -- but I have grabbed a few, including those from this moment (pink coat is the giveaway) and this auto was an easy grab, too. I was hesitant at first as the signed name is her WWE name and not her real name, Saraya, but since it's a witnessed sig I grabbed it. Wrestlers are typically consistent about which name is used when signing, but I have seen a lot of her stuff go both ways -- sometimes both names on the same item. She's done some signings with volume but isn't heavily found on certified cards despite having cards since 2014.

JUST TAKE THOSE OLD RECORDS OFF THE SHELF ...
The Card:
Old Time Rock & Roland (aka Tom Cruise in Risky Business) 2018 Topps Garbage Pail Kids We Hate the '80s Spit parallel (/99)
The Price:
$4
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
The link above is the moment and since it's a parody of both a memorable movie and a bit of a memorable music moment, too, I grabbed it on the cheap. It's totally the kind of card I would slab, but I had sent in a lot of GPKs recently so I didn't (yet) go there. Likely will ... GPKs with music, celeb and movie/TV nods are high on my radar.

THUNDER ... THUNDER ... THUNDER ...
The Cards:
Thunder Rosa 2021 Spectrum AEW -- Rookie Cards -- plus Dark (/99) parallel and memorabilia parallels
The Price:
About $30-35 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This lot kind just happened as a pile-up over time -- and there's more than just these in my stash as some have been graded -- and that explains why there are separate photos for similar cards. Four of these above are RCs and the two on the right are (/99) parallels with just the background and foil color different. Why do I buy? She's a unique persona in wrestling, is self-made coming up through the indies and has nothing in-pack before this save for some Stardom Japan cards. Since she wasn't an early arrival in AEW, she wasn't in the sets before this one. The boxes of this were/are too pricey for the typical return, so I never ripped but I have grabbed singles quite a bit now that they're cheaper. (Some of these buys would have been cheaper now but I only realized I had so many waiting for a spot here.) There will be more.

WHAT ABOUT BOB?
The Items:
First Family (1980) press kit photos featuring Bob Newhart, Gilda Radner, Madeline Kahn, Harvey Korman, Austin Pendleton, Fred Willard and others.
The Price:
Pocket change each as part of a large lot
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
RIP Bob Newhart ... this beloved comedian's death last month at age 94 made me wonder what I had for him in my collection but I realized it was not that much as his biggest years of his career were arguably before my time. But I do have the one thing I knew I wanted when I first saw it ... his Big Bang Theory auto. Meanwhile, when I was just recently scrolling through my reserves of photographed items waiting for a spot in this series I did notice this run of promo photos from an album of stuff I picked up not that long ago. I know the key names here for sure but those who this might appeal to the most are likely older than me -- and Buzz feels old -- so I took the pics but it wasn't on my radar save for it maybe being an election year item in the fall. Maybe. This comedy was apparently panned but still made $15 million at the box office. Here's a preview clip. Yep, that's some 44-year-old comedy for sure.

BIGGER, BETTER, BADDER
The Card:
Randall Cunningham 1994 Action Packed Mammoth (/25,000)
The Price:
About $5.50
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
These cards weren't the easiest sell back in the day but they always get a look from me when I run across them -- they're huge copies of standard cards for 25 stars from a simple but favorite Action Packed release for me. All cards are 10.5-by-7.5 inches for this one -- big like a Mammoth! -- and are embossed with spot gloss on the player and other elements on the embossed fronts while the backs are typical and carry a little serial-number on one edge. They could be landed via a wrapper redemption at first back then and with 625,000 cards across the whole run that means there's a lot to be found now. This unopened pack was a fun online find and I dig it since Cunningham was my player back then. I'm sure I have another tucked into the back of an album somewhere but a second one cheap was an easy addition. I'd totally add more, too, if the price was right. The Barry Sanders and Emmitt Smith cards from this set are also favorites with simple photos that look big and bold at this size. I want to grab more after finding this one.

BAMA BARGAIN BUYS
The Cards:
Assorted Alabama Crimson Tide football player autos and parallels -- Josh Jobe, Traeshon Holden, Slade Bolden, Shaun Alexander, Freddie Milons, A.J. McCarron
The Price:
About $5 total for the autos (despite being /25 each) ... and even less for the RC/paralells that are also low-volume
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
I pick off a lot of familiar (to me) names for my school ties part of my stash but they often sit as I do know that they're probably bigger names to me than a lot of others ... so even nice bargain pick-ups such as these may not get their due. They don't need to. (I'm sure many of you can relate with a good amount of cheap stuff out there if you do your shopping later on instead of right at release.) In this case, four limited-volume autos for $5 total and three low-volume parallels and a RC for about $3 is a win. I'd do more like this but I prefer some things here and there more than collection-building smalls and know a lot of you do, too.

I DIG THE SIMPLICITY HERE
The Card:
Michael Harris II 2023 Topps Heritage High Number Award Winners
The Price:
Under $1
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This is a new-creation retro insert in Heritage from last year that I really like -- ultimately that's a good portrait used well but the framing here give me 1970s Hostess food issue vibes. This is totally the clean kind of cheap card I would -- and probably will -- grade as it just has a simple throwback charm that speaks to me. It's not expensive so it's the kind of card that would sting to slab and not land an elite mark ... so that's probably why this one isn't first landing here on The Buzz slabbed.

TIFFY ... TIMES TWO
The Cards:
Tiffany Stratton 2023 Panini Select WWE (Mezzanine tier)
The Price:
About $20 total ... because I dig this short-printed card
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Speaking of slabbing, this card is from a situation where I picked off one at a good price ... another popped up later again at a good price ... but neither were as tight as I had wanted to create a new Tiffy Time slab. Instead, after landing these I just ponied up for already graded copies of this and a Silver parallel. Why? This is a rarer tier, the printing/cutting/stock can be hit an miss and then I liked how the moment and how it's used here. This is from earlier in her NXT run where she was the bad girl checking her nails during her entrance before talking a little smack to opponents with a lot of Mean Girls/Clueless/High School Musical vibes. It was a little more obnoxious version of Tiffy Time that's still there today ... but just different.

A PEAK MOMENT?
The Item:
Jerry "The King" Lawler autographed 8-by-10 photo with Andy Kaufman and David Letterman (July 28, 1982 ... watch it now) via High Spots
The Price:
$29.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This important moment in wrestling and pop culture history was what Letterman called "the famous show" for him because it came early in the history of Late Night with David Letterman. It helped remind people that wrestling was out there regionally but on a network TV stage -- this was before WWE started to take over the landscape via cable via the USA Network -- and it helped Letterman, too. Watch that clip ... and now watch this one showing it was planned but what happened was not. Now ... why is this here? Lawler isn't a tough auto -- he's been very accessible during his 50-plus year career -- but his recent health issues have changed his once-flourishing autograph style as you can see here. It's got a very smooth artistic feel to it and he's been an artist for a long time -- that's how he got into the business -- but now his ink looks more like this. After I realized that bummer of a reality, the first thing that came to mind was this Kaufman moment and I found this on a curiosity search. I already had Lawler's auto on a past promo photo and likely on some cards, too, but this image, this moment, was one I wanted inked.

A THROWBACK
The Box:
1985 Topps Cyndi Lauper trading cards
The Price:
$59 (sheesh)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This box was a pick-up quite awhile back and I ripped it all looking for just one card -- which I landed three times with awful results on one copy, near-perfection on another and a completely perfect copy on another. I had meant to Buzz Break it, too, but here we are instead. Poke around in The Buzz Archives and you'll see the card -- both are in (or will be soon) a Making The Grade piece as, well, this ended up being a really good box after some past disastrous rips here. How disastrous? The packs have a wrapped piece of softer gum inside but since it's not the traditional rock-hard Topps gum of the past, it has oil that can seep out and ruin the cards if the box was stored in a hot area. I once opened a box with every card -- or at least 99 percent of the cards -- ruined. (You never saw that box break.) Since only the one card is a big deal, I'll spare you guys the breakdown of the rest.

SAY IT AIN'T SO, JOE!
The Items: Eight Men Out (1988) 8-by-10 press kit photos featuring D.B. Sweeney, Charlie Sheen, Michael Rooker, John Cusack and others
The Price:
About $6
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This lot actually included four images but I had packed them away somewhere in my stash for some time before I came back to these and realized one of my photos was not focused at all ... so you can only see a hint of a vertical photo of Cusack on the third frame above. At the price, these clean photos were an easy grab, though it's not a complete set. Bull Durham gets a lot of the attention for baseball movies from around this time, but this movie is a good one with a strong cast ... it's just got some slower segments in there as part of a baseball history lesson. (Of all baseball movies, your boy Buzz might have fallen asleep watching this more than any other.)

POCKET CHANGE GIMMICKS
The Cards:
Bill Belichick 2023 Topps Now Turn Back the Clock (/26,936)
The Price:
65 cents apiece
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Remember all the buzz that the Tom Brady Montreal Expos baseball cards generated last year? Well, this was an online component of that project and it was heavily bought with an inscribed autograph from the NFL coach turned Expos manager -- at least for this card (none of it is reality except this card existing) -- the big chase. What happens a year later? Well, these were had for pocket change. The autos remain compelling, though.

JUST THE JUSKO
The Comic:
She-Hulk (2022) No 1 Joe Jusko variant (announced /3,000 copies)
The Price:
$9.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
I have no real idea if this variant is truly worth what I paid, but when it presented itself among a few searches where I regularly grab stuff I slipped it in along with some magazines. This new title had more than 20 different covers for this reboot and it grabbed my attention with all that bold color and an artist I knew from past projects and cards. I also liked some of the retro touches for the box in the upper left ... this overall just had a good feel to it. Vibes over value for me when collecting -- more like casually dabbling -- in the comic realm and a variant cover like this can be a solid slab, too.

MORE HANKS
The Item:
The Green Mile press kit and three 8-by-1o promotional photos featuring Tom Hanks, Michael Clarke Duncan, David Morse, Sam Rockwell, Michael Jeter, Bonnie Hunt, Barry Pepper and others
The Price:
$5 as part of a lot
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This hit film's press kit may or may not be complete -- I'm not totally sure -- but for the price in a good lot I was fine landing this one. That cast is small but loaded and I've found that dramas tend to sometimes downplay the single flashy image on these images for a mix that reflects a cast feel for everything. (After all, stuff can be scanned and cropped as needed anyway for publications ... I'm just wired to look for the flashier solo 8-by-10s.)

SLIDES IN THE KEY OF LIFE
The Items:
Assorted media slides of musical stars -- appearances from Courtney Love, Alanis Morissette, Michael Bolton, Kathy Ireland, Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston, Brandy, Babyface, Marty Stuart, Tim McGraw, Lauryn Hill, "Downtown" Julie Brown, Stevie Wonder and Garth Brooks
The Price:
Low pocket change as part of bulk lots
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This grouping of musicians caught on camera came from three to four random lots of heavy variety, heavy volume and heavy duplication for some names. And, since I know there's perhaps not as heavy of interest among you guys -- I went in hard on some lots like this last year and even I'm not as heavily into them as I was for a bit -- I cut a musical lineup down to this. The performing slides of Love and Morissette along with the Ireland cameo at a VH1 event along with the surprise of some "Downtown" Julie Brown -- an MTV name I hadn't thought of in years -- are ones I like a little more, and they show the mix of what's possible digging into a big box of slides. It's far cheaper than digging into a big box of new cards right now.

ANOTHER THROWBACK
The Card:
The Slugger's Wife (1985) press kit with 14 8-by-10 promotional photos featuring Michael O'Keefe, Rebecca DeMornay, Randy Quaid, Martin Ritt, Cleavant Derricks and others.
The Price:
$7.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This $19M box-office bust -- a comedy that apparently failed to make 10 percent of that back -- was written by Neil Simon and I'll admit I've never seen it and don't intend to. But, this clean kit included a boatload of photos for a cheap price and there are a few solo images of actors in Braves unis here that are strong visuals. At pocket change, it wouldn't be that hard to come out ahead if I were a seller. Some sellers are trying to get $10-20 for singles for this and a lot of other movies and one of these DeMornay images actually has sold on its own for $15.99 on eBay.

WELL BEFORE THE TURN
The Mags:
Hulk Hogan early magazine covers -- 1984 (top two), 1983  and 1986
The Price:
$9.99 apiece
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This grouping of mags comes from buys that were months ago. Why? Three of are from early on in his WWE years -- just before and just after he became champ for the first time -- and you can see that from the year (no yellow gear) and that old green belt. Once things got more established, it was hard (but not impossible) to find Hogan in other colors and then the one here with that you can see a second older belt design that screams 1986. These all came from a big collection that a dealer was breaking up and most are in relatively clean shape where 9.0 and up seems like it's a possibility with a pressing if I were to grade. Ironically, the newest mag has perhaps the biggest issues condition-wise, but sometimes that just comes down to the paper types used. A lot of these "other" wrestling mags that were not official WWE creations used cheap newsprint inside and light cover paper -- so discoloring from the acids breaking down can be an issue. After all, the youngest book here is 38 years old. The others are 40 and up. That's old, brother ...
