Buzz Buys ... A LOT of comics: Every single one is an incentive

Buzz buys a lot of stuff these days and for a few reasons, really. In recent times, I've been picking off bulk lots of comic books -- new stuff and old stuff -- by the box and have decided to make it a monthly drop here. Why? Just for fun ...

What's The Deal? I found a dealer/shop-owner where they sell off bulk lots of books in real-time streams (about two minutes per box) filling up flat-rates with comics from all eras -- often bagged and boarded -- and with variants and all kinds of stuff in the mix. Sometimes there's a theme or run of books, sometimes there's not. After more than a few buys like this, I've decided to pop up one of these lots every month as a series -- just for fun -- to see what shows up and what people think over in the comics section of the forum.

What's The Steal? This one was pretty crazy with everything inside an incentive cover, meaning a 1:25 book is seeded one copy for every 25 standard issues ordered. All 10 of my DC books here are at that rarer tier, which makes these alternative covers a bit harder to find than others that exist and 25 times rarer than the standard version. That same volume also applied to every Marvel book in this lot, while a few indy books dip lower with only one of those checking in at 1:25. I’ll still take it. Now, for value? The Mike Allred cover up top actually had an eBay sale pushing $20, while many here have asking prices at the $5/10/15/20 points -- so while the odds on paper here are strong the dollars being thrown around here aren’t as beefy -- the gimmick worked at the time, though, with an influx of flippers and gimmick buyers (just like cards) then. The Marvel books? Some here are much, much cheaper. At just $1.87 or so per book shipped, though, for all of them I’ll survive. (Take out shipping and these were less than $1.50 apiece.) Everything here is crisp and clean (unread), too, so any slabbing should be at elite tiers, too, if the bug hit me. There are a couple better ones in my eyes but none are a given for me on the grading front. But ... still an interesting box.

Bottom Line: Even if the dollar demand isn’t there now, the math is the math -- these books should hold up as harder finds than the regular books over time -- so this box was a win for this casual, art-minded dabbler.
