Buzz Buys ... A LOT of comics: Inside a Wolverine box

Buzz buys a lot of stuff these days and for a few reasons, really. In recent times, I've been picking off bulk lots of comic books -- new stuff and old stuff -- by the box and have decided to make it a monthly drop here. Why? Just for fun ...

What's The Deal? I found a dealer/shop-owner where they sell off bulk lots of books in real-time streams (about two minutes per box) filling up flat-rates with comics from all eras -- often bagged and boarded -- and with variants and all kinds of stuff in the mix. Sometimes there's a theme or run of books, sometimes there's not. After more than a few buys like this, I've decided to pop up one of these lots every month as a series -- just for fun -- to see what shows up and what people think over in the comics section of the forum.

What's The Steal? This box, to me, was all about a razor sharp copy of the iconic book seen above -- Wolverine No. 27, Jim Lee's take on that cover has become an iconic go-to marketing/merch image many times for Marvel -- and it started here. If graded, it's a pricey book with some steep asking prices on eBay and respectable ones once you flip over to actual sales. (It's from 1990 -- not really rare but in demand ... but also not as super-plentiful as stuff to come not long afterward.) This one will need pressed to see if some wrinkling/non-breaking lines along the spine on the back cover will come out ... but I'll do it at some point soon. Why? I just want one of these slabbed and it's super clean other than that problem ... even if it's a miss at one of the higher grades, it will always be my "found" bulk lot copy and that's good enough for me. The rest of this lot included a meaty little chunk of the Wolverine series (Vol. 2) that started in 1988 and ran until 2003. Lee only had four covers ... two of them are here. All of these are quite clean (or at least there are no trashed ones) and some are pretty early, too, but No. 27 is the gem to me among a handful of strong covers and then some slightly older (and slightly rougher) X-Men books. All in all, I didn't mind this lot for about $1.40 apiece and all of these issues were from just before I got into comics for a short time as a collector intending to save them. That collecting focus didn't last more than a few years but revisiting some of this stuff like this -- casual dabbling and some slabbing of stuff I like -- are what I do now for time to time in this realm.

Now it's time for the specifics ...

Bottom Line: One book can make a box -- but this one had a few other highlights in there, too. See it all below. Without the big book, I'm not sure I'd be as interested -- but that price would probably have been lower, too. To me, this one was a win.
