Buzz Buys ... A LOT: Some stars from a memorable WWE game
This entry was posted on March 15, 2024
.Buzz buys a lot of stuff these days and for a few reasons, really. Sometimes it's just bargain-hunting, sometimes it's just something that strikes me. And other times it's a lot -- a group of things -- and that has happened enough lately I figured I'd try something different as a regularly appearing item. Sometimes my lots will be wins, sometimes they won't be ... but I'll let you decide.

SOMETHING'S COOKIN' ...
The Lot: A lot of 18 cards from the 1997 and 1998 Cardinal WWF Trivia Games
The Price: $20
Keep reading for more on this one ...
What's The Deal? Cardinal produced a trio of WWF (now WWE) trivia games in the late 1990s/early 2000s (1997, 1998 and approximately 2001 ... though they aren't labeled that way in some packaging formats) with some thin-stock wrestler cards seeded among the deck of trivia cards. The materials used are basic -- it was a game, not really a collectable -- and the printing job wasn't always the strongest and that was helped by the way they were packed, too. (A shrink-wrapped stack in two years I have opened.) Translation: These don't really grade that well ... but when they do it can be impressive.
What's The Steal? These are from the first and second waves of the set with that card of The Rock being a different image than the other two editions -- some are new images, some are not. (First two are yellow borders, third is white.) The run of names here is pretty strong and that got me to bite, pondering some slab work since this price was impressive. The extra Foley card shows how the printing can be erratic and can change from set to set or even year by year. (Some cards have the image printed on the pulp side of the stock and some are correctly on the smooth side. Think Topps Heritage Flip Stock cards.)
Anything Missing? Well, it's a lot, so that's not really in play here but there were 30 cards in the 1997 and 1998 sets ... and I got a good chunk of the key names but without some of the filler.
The Lot Details ...
Notables: Steve Austin, The Rock, Mankind (2), Vince McMahon, X-Pac, The Godfather, Ahmed Johnson, Owen Hart, Vader, Goldust, Edge, Farooq, Kane, New Age Outlaws, Jerry Lawler, D'Lo Brown, Diesel (image is Kane dressed as Diesel)
Rookie Cards: While some claim it, these really aren't applicable for the traditional "RC" definition. These are early cards for a few names here but this one is from the gaming realm with gaming backs and not a traditional pack-out.
Bottom Line: The conditions here weren't awful, but I probably didn't land anything that would end up as an elite slab, either. With it being WrestleMania season and with the biggest name here prominently back on the radar, I figured now was the time to show off this one. For the price and names, it still wasn't a bad find.
