Buzz Buys ... A LOT: Vintage with big hair & some big potential
This entry was posted on March 24, 2026.

Buzz buys a lot of stuff these days and for a few reasons, really. Sometimes it's just bargain-hunting, sometimes it's just something that strikes me. And other times it's a lot -- a group of things -- and that has happened enough lately I figured I'd try something different as a regularly appearing item. Sometimes my lots will be wins, sometimes they won't be ... but I'll let you decide.

BIG HAIR ... BIG UPSIDE
The Lot: Seven 1976 Topps & 1976 Topps Traded baseball cards
The Price: $16.51 shipped -- check out Retro Rips here
Keep reading for more on this one ...

What's The Deal? This lot was all about one card -- and it’s the steal card here, too. I grabbed this lot solely for that razor-sharp 1976 Topps Traded Oscar Gamble card and its grading potential. It’s a legendary card and this card is as crisp and clean as it gets atop being a cult classic card. The seller here was piecing out vintage sets online -- stuff from an old-timer’s shop that perhaps hadn’t been seen in years -- and streaming singles and then stacks once they went through things once. I don’t know if Gamble was ever offered as a single card, but I pounced on the lot once I saw he was in there and things looked really, really good. In fact, the other “name” guys here don’t even come close to this card ... and it was perhaps just the afterthought in the lot.
What's The Steal? The Gamble isn’t an impossible card to find raw -- around $3 on eBay on a quick search -- but a PSA 6-7 is a $35-$30 eBay sale and, frankly, I think this one checks in way higher than that. A PSA 10 recently went for $560 per their data and then $671 earlier this year, while a PSA 9 is around $50 on average but has topped $100 a few times in recent years per PSA’s stats. Again, it’s not that rare -- it’s just about its place in the Guinness Book of hobby lore with that hair and then the pop report stats. Only seven have hit a PSA 10 out of more than 300 graded ... but I’m a CGC guy so I’ll find out how I land there later this year. It’s a classic card and I just want it slabbed no matter what ... but I think it’ll do well.
Anything Missing? No. This is a lot, not a set or near-set situation.

The Lot Details ...
Base (7) – Robin Yount, Joe Torre, Larry Parrish, Tony Oliva, Tommy John, Dick Allen, Oscar Gamble (Traded)
Bottom Line: Some good names here -- even some Hall of Famers -- but nothing touches that Gamble. Nothing more needs to be said.
