Buzz Goes Gaming: 2001 Cardinal WWF Attitude In Review

This new department will be an occasional series that will take a quick look at a game our gaming release with card elements -- essentially a breakdown of what's in a box, but not the typical kind of a Buzz Break. (Buzz isn't a gamer so this will just be what's in a box vs. gameplay analysis.) Maybe there's a box you'd want to see busted? Send Buzz an email at BlowoutBuzz@blowoutcards.com.

What's Buzz-worthy: There's always a little bit of confusion with these games as there are three card sets but only two dramatically different looks -- the first two editions of the games come with card sets carrying yellow borders and then this final one has them in white -- and there's confusion based on the packaging's copyright branding on this particular tin, too. The tin says 1999 but the cards here are from 2001 as some of the names in the set were not in WWE at that time. The first two editions of the game have updated card images for some stars between the versions and that leads to some confusion and perhaps helps/hurts demand for some names' cards with these being early finds. (I won't say Rookie Cards ... because this is gaming.) More confusion atop that? The packaging on this edition shows yellow cards (eBay images are at right with the top box being the debut and then the tins noting their edition). I didn't take pics of my box as I landed this more than a year ago at a steal for a sealed set -- around $60 -- and hoped that it would be the 2001 (white cards) inside and it was. Why? I wanted the cards for some of the new names only found in this one. Not all games are guaranteed to have certain versions of cards inside -- it just depended on when they were packaged -- remember they were games, not card releases. Some prices can be quite steep here at times for sealed sets as there has been strong demand for key cards in top grades but the stock and packaging -- they were merely stacked within trivia cards and then shrink-wrapped -- didn't do them any favors atop the light cardboard. (I think I envisioned grading here and then slabbed nothing after I opened mine.) I like the look of a lot in this one but if you're wanting to dabble with slabs you might just grab stuff already graded. I definitely wouldn't pay the asking prices for some of the sealed sets out there these days -- there are no guarantees of top grades.
