Buzz Goes Gaming: 2019 Top Trumps L.E. Movie Stars TCG
This entry was posted on November 21, 2025.

This new department will be an occasional series that will take a quick look at a game our gaming release with card elements -- essentially a breakdown of what's in a box, but not the typical kind of a Buzz Break. (Buzz isn't a gamer so this will just be what's in a box vs. gameplay analysis.) Maybe there's a box you'd want to see busted? Send Buzz an email at BlowoutBuzz@blowoutcards.com.

What's Buzz-worthy: This card game brand is one that actually dates back to the late-197os and it was relaunched in the UK in the 1990s where it presents decks like this for a number of varying topics that all play the same way. Does one player's card trump another? If so, the winner gets both cards. But this one isn't really here for the playing side .... there's a lot to collect over the years with sets for movie stars, other celebs, pop stars, films, TV shows and other properties that have signed on for some merch. This celeb catch-all is probably thanks to the UK's publicity rights laws -- I think -- but there are others such as golfers, boxers, soccer stars, etc., that might pack more into these decks than one might expect to find if done elsewhere. With their long-running history and a ton of options available past and present around the world, I won't even try to claim a deep knowledge here ... but this deck finally presented itself, so I bit. Some of these gaming cards have been popular with card-graders and sellers, especially around COVID times, with some names in sets not found on cardboard heavily elsewhere found here. This set? Many of these names, if not all of them, likely have other cards from countless roles that got merch and/or card sets but I liked the price. (Decks are generally around $10-15.) Given the number of cards and names, these also can be a simple break-up/come out ahead option for slow-paced sellers, too. I just like to dabble with different cardboard and these do present some compelling grading options with a matte finish, all that black ink on both sides ... but a slightly taller size where you may not be able to grade them everywhere just yet. The mixing in of a few retro names in this one also helps, though the visuals (remember it's a card game) are a little repetitive. All in all, though, I didn't mind it and will probably grab some different ones at some point if they present themselves. Why? Just for something different.
