Presidential first pitch cards offer easy collecting niche among plentiful political cardboard
We've seen plenty of politicians in our sports card sets in the last decade or so and even more here and there in various non-sports sets in the past, but one easy way to filter out the interesting cards from the mundane is to pick a niche. That's ultimately up to your taste, but one niche that might appeal to more baseball fans on this Presidents Day would be cards that show a Commander in Chief actually on a baseball field throwing out a ceremonial first pitch.
There have been quite a few.

Glenn Hubbard's famed 1984 Fleer card inspires bobblehead promotion

Let's revisit 1967 Topps errors for a 2016 Topps Heritage variation primer
We're less than a month away from the release of 2016 Topps Heritage baseball cards, the annual trek to the past that includes errors and variations as an added homage to the past year within the new product. In advance of the March 2 release, Buzz was wondering about which mistakes are found in the 1967 Topps set -- that's this year's throwback model -- and what might be found. We don't yet have a checklist from Topps for this year, but that will be telling. Why? Stars from the past teams will often match stars on present teams in the set if an error/correction is in play.
Here's a rundown of the mistakes found in 1967 Topps ...

Don't flip out ... Jose Bautista's 2016 Topps baseball card is hot (for now)
Don't flip out, but there's a pretty hot base card in 2016 Topps baseball cards because of a great (and controversial) moment and some mainstream media coverage. It's Jose Bautista's card No. 96 in the set and it's sold on eBay pretty well.
How well? How about $20 well and that one's not alone. There are also bulk lots that are getting attention because it's a memorable moment captured on cardboard. Rarer parallels of the card also are commanding good cash.
The card was shown at the close of MLB Network's Hot Stove morning show and that means it will probably pop up elsewhere, too. Will it continue to be expensive? Of course not -- but the appeal, especially with Blue Jays fans, probably won't diminish.

New Mariner Dae Ho Lee already has Topps cards for fans to consider
The latest member of the Seattle Mariners comes from Korea by way of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan last season after signing a minor-league deal with the MLB team. His name is Dae Ho Lee and he's a former member of Korea's World Baseball Classic squad and a guy who hit 31 home runs last season for the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks. He probably won't be fighting for a starting spot, but the Mariners are a team with a rich history of international stars that fans have watched closely in the past.
“Dae-Ho gives us another potential right-handed power bat in the first base competition,” general manager Jerry Dipoto said in a prepared statement. “He has performed at a very high level of production in both Korea and Japan and we are excited to see how that translates to our team.”
How might he translate onto cardboard? We've already got cards to watch and see -- no matter what happens in spring training.
