It's going to be a busy end of the year for Dallas-based Heritage Auctions with a number of regularly scheduled events as well as some showcase auctions with high-profile stuff all on the calendar. This time, we look at a few things from a few active sales this month.

ANOTHER BIG JORDAN
The Item: Michael Jordan Oct. 26, 1984 (NBA Debut) Chicago Bulls season-ticket stub (PSA 4)
The Price: $65,000 after 25 bids (ends Sept. 27)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Last month, a Michael Jordan (and Kobe Bryant) card sale via auction re-wrote some hobby history and, while we're confident this one won't fetch $12.9 million, this one is in some rare air. It has already hit its estimated price from the auction house and while its grade is low there are only three higher. "The most important athletic debut of the post-war era?" asked Heritage in its listing. "A strong argument could be made. Perhaps only Wayne Gretzky could challenge Michael Jordan in balloting seeking to identify the most dominant figure of his respective major sport, but once you step outside the sports arena and into the wider popular culture, M.J. leaves The Great One in his dust. He remains one of the most recognizable humans on the planet two decades after his retirement from the NBA." Jordan scored a modest 16 points in a 109-93 win over the Washington Bullets on this night and only 14 of these have been grade overall.Keep reading for more interesting pieces up for grabs right now.
Care Bears: Unlock The Magic cards coming via Kickstarter
Those iconic belly badges are coming to cardboard.
A Kickstarter campaign to bring a new Care Bears card game to life was funded within the first hour after its recent launch and there are a number of options for collectors to partake in their celebration of the 1980s toys and now pop culture treasures/icons that have lived on since. It's a first-time card game for the Care Bears franchise.
Naftos and Zoop Games are behind the Care Bears: Unlock The Magic - The Deckbuilding Game with pledges topping $48,000 so far via more than 300 backers after having a goal of only $10,000 when it launched -- there are only a few days left to grab some premium pieces such as an uncut sheet or other pack formats for this exclusive release.

DARK KNIGHT IN DEMAND
The Item: Batman tin robot with original English box (Nomura Toys, 1966)
The Price: $5,250 after 29 bids (ends July 11)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This vintage Japanese toy is a foot-tall prime piece of pop culture with an obvious 1960s feel yet with some aspirations of something more for the future -- it's a battery operated tin toy and it's complete with its Adam West-styled box and fabric cape. This one is "an iconic fusion of superhero flair and vintage tin toy charm" per Heritage and it's one of two known styles -- this one has the serious face and one with the switch button in red. New VeeFriends Chrome set joins a rich cardboard legacy
The latest might be the greatest -- so far -- but there are plenty of past VeeFriends to collect if one decides to go there ... and it appears that quite a few of you do.
This newest release, Topps VeeFriends Chrome 2025, is packed with flashy characters and sets -- we'll get to those later -- and it's been a near-instant sellout at that link. But, there are two previous sets that paved the way for this one that might be worth looking at before exploring this new one.
The O.G. was VeeFriends x zerocool Series 1, a collection that arrived in 2022 with 268 characters and 15 sketches that introduced Series 2 characters. It "was designed to bridge the gap between NFTs and real-world collectibles, allowing collectors to own physical versions of their VeeFriends Series 1 NFTs," per the company.
That first one was in a premium format and a limited release of only 1,000 boxes (250 cases) showcasing characters drawn and created by the guru behind it all, Gary Vaynerchuk, while the second series introduced them as "fully personified and colored characters" in a collection of more than 250 characters and also almost 100 additional other cards. It took on more of a modern gaming trading card game form. Both series have NFT counterparts and include rarer finds among the various tiers and autographed cards from Vaynerchuk. What is VeeFriends some might ask? It "combines stories, games, events, collectibles, and technology to build a community around a movement of kindness and accountability," the company said, using their "characters and their attributes to create a better world. These characters foster a sense of community and inspire creativity, self-discovery, accountability, and personal growth."
What kind of interest and demand was there for these sets? Well, anybody who was at the National Sports Collectors Convention in recent years likely remembers their colorful and busy booth -- at a sports card show -- but don't take our word for it. Just click here for a look at eBay sales. There's big interest.
And now, this newest set introduces something into the mix that wasn't there before -- the power of Chrome. Let's take a look at what's in there this time.

Evan Longoria's Pokemon power coming to cardboard soon
Evan Longoria's playing days might be winding down, but his cardboard will be powering up this year.
As teased on his Instagram today, he signed a batch of baseball cards for Topps and the knob off one of his Charizard-powered baseball bats will have a spot in 2025 Topps Tier One, which will arrive later this year.
"A few beautiful hits I just signed from this years @topps @fanatics Tier One Baseball," the 16-year veteran wrote here. "I inscribed a few for you all. Whoever finds the Charizard bat knob, please hit me up! Happy hunting!"
So, what's the deal with the Pokémon appearance?

LEGENDARY INK
The Card: Ichiro Suzuki autographed 2001 Topps Rookie Card (BAS 10 auto)
The Price: Not as much as you might think ... but also not that cheap.
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Clean copies of this iconic Topps flagship Rookie Card are not easy finds in general with the boxes and sets likely bricked now if they remain unopened -- that means the gloss will be snowy if you're lucky to peel the cards apart at all -- and then the dark green border and high-gloss on soft stock here is always going to be problematic. When I spotted this card among many where Suzuki has signed for literally years (Mill Creek Sports) without a premium price, I bit on this just before his Hall of Fame results hit. (We all knew he was going in ... but I didn't know if his prices were going to rise.) This copy is super clean vs. many cards out there with some very light roughness on maybe one edge and a light touch on the bottom-left corner ... but some of what's seen in my photo is just how the light is reflecting. I generally don't do a ton of bigger buys for my collection, but this one's cost wasn't that much more than some of the hot and plentiful new release hobby boxes. I went with a safe and iconic bet for my (for me) premium spend and went with the sure thing on an iconic card for a living legend. I pulled his ink once from an unlicensed release -- and it was in one of my earliest Making The Grade posts here -- but a signed RC means I'll likely never need to sweat his stuff again. (Might window shop, though, or bite if price is right for a nice certified.) One more fun part of my card? If that label had a simple added line of Beckett/Fanatics witnessed instead of signed for Mill Creek and then slabbed, the price likely would be double what I paid. I wouldn't pay that -- and this one is a win in my book.

Making the Grade (Jan.): Stranger Things, newer stars, older mags, legendary ink and more star power as we hit a new year
Like many collectors, Buzz is a fan of grading and knows that there are many reasons that collectors choose to slab cards. Sometimes it's to enhance the appeal and protect them when selling. Other times it's to protect an investment for the long-term or to protect for sentimental reasons. Or, it might be just for fun or curiosity about a potential grade.

THEY'RE BACK ... SOMETIME SOON
The Item: Stranger Things Season 1 Target-exclusive Blu-ray set (2016)
The Reason Bought: How many Netflix series these days get a physical DVD release of any kind? How many get chain store-exclusive variant versions? Not that much of anything TV gets a physical release, really, not at least anywhere near the volumes of the past and that thought, along with the fact that the final season of this franchise is finally dropping sometime this year, got me looking here. I really liked the feel of this DVD set that's made to look like an old 1980s VHS sleeve that's had plenty of wear and tear and I also liked the idea of a graded item with that feel -- one where its actual flaws can blend in well and not stand out as glaring reasons why an item didn't grade higher.
The Grade: CGC 9.4 (A+ seal)Grade 7.0 7.5 8.0 8.5 9.0 9.2 9.4 9.6 9.8 9.9 10.0 Total Population 0 0 0 0 0 0 1* 0 0 0 0 1* Reality Check: There are definitely other* copies of this one graded, but a pop report doesn't yet appear to be live for CGC Home Video (or it was down when I prepped this) and my number didn't come up on the verification search, either. That's OK for me as slabbed movies and games aren't as high on my radar in slabs as cards and magazines in terms of a "commodity" ... these are more the kind of shelf item with maybe some longer-term potential substance to them. To me they're more of a name-your-price novelty -- and, as an aside, I do like CGC's cases a lot more than others in this realm. This was a relatively cheap addition as well -- less than a lot of retail card boxes -- and over time affordable items can build a collection. One scary part? This is not far away from being 10 years old ... time flies.

THE AIR UP THERE ...
The Card: Michael Jordan 2009 Goodwin Champions
The Reason Graded: This is one I pulled from a pack of this Ginter-style rival throwback brand back when it arrived, and it's got an obviously appropriate background for Air Jordan. It's that simple touch (and it being a dunk shot) that makes this card -- in all its versions -- in some demand. This one had been in my "maybe grade" pile for literally years and I finally worked it into a bulk sub since the NBA season is here.
The Grade: CGC 10Grade 5.5 6 6.5 7 7.5 8 8.5 9 9.5 10 P10 Total Population 0 0 0 0 0 1 2 5 2 8 0 18 Reality Check: It checked in higher than I had expected, though I tend to punt cards where the centering is just slightly off ... but those can still land a 10 like this one did. Ultimately I was good with any mark as, for me, this is more of a novelty slab -- about the only Jordan collecting I do is his baseball stuff. Interestingly, most copies of this card have checked in here -- that's surprising to me -- but with that overall volume still low that could change easily with time.

Buzz Buys: Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, young WWE stars, retro finds, new autographs and an oldschool Roddy Piper moment?
Buzz buys and busts a lot of boxes right here for Buzz Breaks, but one of my goals is to rip a little less and talk more about cardboard that I -- and you -- might like. One way to do that? Simple show and tell -- present a few pick-ups and say why they captured my attention.
So, with all that said, here are a few Buzz Buys ... a mix of newer pick-ups and some retro/oddball finds.

A SIMPLE VARIATION
The Card: Bryce Young 2023 Panini Prizm Draft Picks Variations Silver parallel
The Price: $9.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This one caught my attention out there in the world with it being the antithesis of a lot of draft cards these days -- a helmet-less studio portrait -- so I bit. It looked clean and potentially slab-worthy but after how his rookie season went I might wait and see if others go the slab route and I'll pick theirs off rather than sub this one. Or, over the long haul, maybe this will make its way into my submissions -- but it's not a priority at the moment. We'll see. Either way, I like this card and no matter what he does in the NFL he's always got a spot of some sort in the school ties part of my collection.

Monty Python & The Holy Grail The Game on way via Dynamite
A comedy classic is coming to the board game realm thanks to a successful BackerKit campaign -- and it could include additional surprises depending on how high it goes.
It's Monty Python & The Holy Grail The Game and it's coming in July from Dynamite Entertainment for those who back its production right here. The game-makers' goal was $50,000 to put this one into production and it's already sitting at more than $140,000 with almost a month to go.
In other words, The Black Knight ain't stopping this one, which its creators call "an epic adventure of absurdity."
Disney Lorcana booster packs arrive at Blowout Cards
One of the hottest card releases around the world now has a new home -- in the Blowout Cards store.
Disney Lorcana is fresh to the site with 24-pack lots of blister (sleeved booster) packs among three options upon for grabs at the moment for The First Chapter of this new Disney gaming line from Ravensburger ... well, that's while they last as these are in big demand on pretty much every storefront as the stars of the magic kingdom and beyond are all found with various rare looks as the start of an ongoing gaming experience.
