Collecting Game-used: Having all the details ... with none at all

Sometimes you have all the details thanks to an authentication sticker ... and sometimes you don't.

It's those don't times that can be work -- but often you can still photo-match an item's damage or other unique traits to photos from the on-field action. Other times, there's nothing. This month's item in the Collecting Game-used series is one of those "other" times and one where there aren't that many details ... yet I know it all. (And still can't prove a thing, either.)

THE BASICS ...
Game-used MiLB cap (no authentication): Zorros de Somerset (Somerset Patriots) at Alces de Maine (Portland Sea Dogs) -- May 11, 2023

The matchup: None ... keep reading.
The results: None for Olds as he didn't pitch in a 9-1 Zorros win over the Alces in this Copa de la Diversión (aka Fun Cup) game in front of 3,736 fans at Hadlock Field. (Olds pitched the next day, giving up two runs on one hit with two strikeouts in 2.2 innings ... and I'd assume those were in their typical Sea Dogs unis.)

What's Buzz-worthy: The Copa game here is the key -- it appears to have been a once-a-year event for this franchise among a handful of alternate personas for the team during the season with specialty unis and more in play as part of the action at the ballpark. Olds -- real name Christopher Wyatt Olds -- pitched just one game for the team in 2022 and it wasn't that one per a cross-check of the team schedule with his game log ... and this cap was in my hands following the 2023 season, so it wasn't this year's game, either (if they had one). That means this cap is tied to the 2023 season, so, as long as he was there and in uniform ... it's a signed game-used cap for a game where he didn't pitch. (It was picked up on eBay from a seller who had a deep inventory of game-used items for their team just a few miles down the road at a modest cost -- a cost that wouldn't get me many card boxes even at the retail aisle so there was no real risk to me.) I picked up other caps of his, too -- see them here -- and, well, I guess all this means is that I'm a Chris Olds collector. We'll head back to The Show when this series picks up again next year.
