Did somebody say ThunderCats? Wait for a February drop ...

.Did somebody say "ThunderCats?"
They did and that one got The Boss' attention at Blowout Cards as Thomas Fish is a serious collector of original comic book art that includes the original pen-and-ink debut panels and/or covers for iconic characters such as Wolverine, Ghost Rider, X-Force and Deadpool. If you didn't know, he also owns the entire issue's worth of original artwork from Jim Lee's X-Men reboot in 1991 ... the No. 1 issue remains the best-selling comic book issue ever with more than 8 million copies sold across five variants. (He's got all of the covers, too -- click the image here to see 'em all up close.)
But ThunderCats? That one checks in as his favorite series ... which leads us to right here, right now today.
ThunderCats No. 1 won't be doing those kinds of X-Men numbers in 2024 -- the world has changed some -- but it's generating headlines right now in advance of the reboot series coming next month from Dynamite Entertainment -- a revival that already has checked in with approximately 170,000 copies sold in advance ... that's the largest launch in several years, according to published reports.
The franchise debuted as an animated television series in 1985 and it ran for four seasons with more than 100 episodes, spawning plenty of toys and other merchandise as well as comic books from Marvel UK via its Star Comics line -- that original art for issue No. 1 is seen up top with Fish -- and then it arrived again later (2002) via DC Comics via Wildstorm, which was established by Lee in 1992 as part of the Image Comics revolution. ThunderCats has popped up a number of times since then with Panini UK lauching a book to coincide with a new TV series in 2012 as well as some one-shots from several publishers.
This new series written by Declan Shalvey and drawn by Drew Moss will be the newest take on the heroic feline heroes led by Lion-O and their legendary battles against their many foes. A lot of books these days utilize variant covers and this one will be using that approach -- in 1991 with the X-Men it was a bit of a newer thing -- and there will be several of them as you can see below, according to Dynamite. They include work from Lucio Parrillo, Rob Liefeld, Jae Lee and there will be others in with foil variants and other treatments.
So ... could there be more headlines to come? Stay tuned ...
