Fast Five: NFL players who impressed Buzz in Week 6
This entry was posted on October 18, 2021
.Fast Five is a quick list that might offer a basic starting point for a themed collection or new focus -- five things that could be fun for a beginner or a new way to add something to your stash if you're a grizzled veteran.
This time? Five NFL players who impressed Buzz in Week 6.
HOW 'BOUT THEM PICKS?
Trevon Diggs -- CB, Cowboys (Rookie Cards in 2020 boxes)
Defensive stars rarely appear here -- it seems like most buyers just don't dig even the most tenacious of D when it comes to cardboard -- but if you're wanting to collect without breaking the bank then those guys on defense can make for some easier chases at times. This guy? He might not apply right now on that cheaper part of the equation, but he's doing things that make him get noticed and all you had to do was look at the last few minutes of the fourth quarter on Sunday between the Cowboys and Patriots. His league-leading seventh interception of the year was a pick-six off his old Alabama teammate Mac Jones -- and he's one of four players in league history to have an interception in six consecutive games to start a season. (The first since 2003.) His seven picks though six games is something only previously done by Hall of Famer Rod Woodson back in 1993. He has a lot of rookie-year cardboard last year and actually had stuff in USA Football sets in 2015, but his best pieces will be the cardboard in his Cowboys colors and perhaps some with full sigs vs. his simplified TD signature. He's having a big year -- so now may not be the best time to chase -- but now will likely be the time where the better stuff shows up on the market.
Keep reading for four more making up the list this time.
FILLING IN NICELY
Chuba Hubbard -- RB, Panthers (Rookie Cards in 2021 boxes)
Christian McCaffrey is out so Hubbard is in and he picked up his first TD of his career on Sunday as part of a 16-carry 61-yard day against the Vikings. The numbers aren't big per se, but RBs weren't as big of a deal this week with just four 100-yard rushers (though Derrick Henry goes tonight). This rookie actually hit 100 yards last week to set a career high and he should get the looks until McCaffrey is back. Is he a big buy on cardboard? Maybe short-term but you never know these days -- there are seemingly always surprises out there. Call this a dark-horse pick vs. other names here.

THE WORKHORSE
Jonathan Taylor -- RB, Colts (Rookie Cards in 2020 boxes)
He only had 14 carries but that still translated into 145 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a rout of the Texans this week. He's had some huge games and has been a regular scorer last year and this month -- I've had him right here before and I think we'll see him again. Maybe it's just me, but I'd be buying as long as bargains can be found.

BACK IN ACTION
Joe Burrow -- QB, Bengals (Rookie Cards in 2020 boxes)
His stats this week aren't the biggest among QBs but there's nothing shabby about 271 yards and three TDs in a big win over the hapless Lions. Through six games Burrow has 1,540 passing yards and 14 TDs -- that number has already topped last season. I wasn't sure how the knee injury would affect him and wasn't an optimist last year, but the numbers this year are strong -- he's completed 123 passes out of 174 attempts, too, which is a 107.9 rating for the season. That's the seventh-best mark so far this year and one of the players ahead of him is actually out hurt right now so his number ain't dropping. (A perfect rating is 158.3.) As a top pick, he's not cheap but I'd be looking.

BIG FINISH, BIG GAME
CeeDee Lamb -- WR, Cowboys (Rookie Cards in 2020 boxes)
Dak Prescott put up yet another big game in their OT win, but this time I'll go with the guy who caught the game-winning TD to cap off a nine-catch 149-yard two-TD showing. This was a career-high game for yards -- just his fourth over 100 yards in his career -- and just his second two-TD game. (Both also were tops or tied for best in the NFL this week, too.) His cheaper RCs from last year seem like easy buys as he might be coming into form as a top guy on a top team -- though the expectations of being a first-rounder probably still aren't being met on the pricey stuff. (Translation: They're pricey and probably have less room to move than the cheaper stuff.)
