What's buzz-worthy: Are you ready for a new year of baseball cards? If so, it's time to preview a turn-back-the-clock edition that takes us all back to 1972.

Keep reading for more as well as a full gallery of images.

The Basics: The basic set will once again consist of 400 cards with 100 short-prints atop that found eight times per hobby box. Parallels will include Black parallels (announced /50), flip-stock cards (announced /5), Chromes for 100 cards (/999) with Refractors (/572) -- and Black (/72), Gold (/5), 1/1 Superfractors and Hot Box Refractors just like previous years. There also will be Minis (/100), throwback, action and nickname variations as well as some "unannounced surprises."

Real One Autographs return with on-card ink and Red (/72 max) parallels along with duals (/25 max) and triples (/5) as well as 1972 Texas Rangers inaugural season autos (/100 max). On the auto-Relic front, there will be Clubhouse Collection Auto Relics (/25) with 1/1 Patch parallels that are hobby-only along with duals (/10 max) with a 1/1 Patch versions (hobby-only). There also will be Flashback Auto Relics with a 1/1 parallel as well as be baseball and celeb cut autograph sets.

For standard Relics, there are Clubhouse Collection cards with Gold (/99) and 1/1 Patch parallels along with dual (/72), triple (/25) and quad (/10) cards all also with 1/1 hobby-only patch versions. Back will be 1972 Mint coin cards with Nickel (/5), Dime (/10), Quarter (/5) and 1/1 half-dollar versions all using 1972 coins. Joining them will be stamp Relics.

The standard insert lineup should be familiar with New-Ager Performers, Then & Now and Flashbacks for baseball and the news from 1972. A new addition will be The Great One -- a 21-card set looking back at Roberto Clemente and there also will be Clemente buyback cards with a stamp noting they are from this release. Rounding it all out will be 1972 jumbo box-toppers (/1,000) with auto parallels (/25 max) and 1972 Posters (every other box) with original buyback cards from 1972 also in the mix (every other box).

Update: Variations are, for the most part, noted on the checklist and three of the sets appear in the gallery below. All 50 nickname, action photo and throwback uni cards are here. As in previous recent years, the variation type is noted on the back of the card by the number for these sets as well as the others.
