What's buzz-worthy: Pieces of the Past goes high-end with some key artifacts going into cards thanks to a collaboration with "The Babe Ruth of Historical Collecting," Eric C. Caren, curating the items as part of a release including "some of the finest collectibles and artifacts relating to the Declaration of Independence and the United States of America."

Keep reading for more info and a selection of images.

The Basics: Among the artifacts going into cards -- all swatches "from a damaged, incomplete, stained, torn and otherwise compromised original piece" -- will include George Washington's second inauguration podium, a printing of the United States Constitution from the year he became president, words printed by Benjamin Franklin, a 1776 printing of the Declaration of Independence, John Adams "personally chopped wood" from his estate, a selection of colonial American cannonballs, wood from the USS Independence, a Revolutionary War powder horn, wood from the USS Constitution and original musket balls for starters. ... All cards will include "specific information about that relic hand-selected from The Eric C. Caren Collection" on the back. ... Two encapsulated cards will be atop the packs with one memorabilia card in packs. A case will include one "Gold Relic" from the lineup mentioned above as well as Revolutionary War period engraved portraits for starters. There will be 300 cards in the overall set with 200 types and 100 unique cards, according to the company, with singles, duals, triples, quads, jumbos and even 5-by-7 jumbo mem cards in play. Parallels also will be in the mix with Silver, Blue, Red, Flag, Gold, Turn Engines and 1/1s for starters. ... Boxes carry a suggested retail price of $189.95.

Just bought a box to open with my kids and it would be nice if the cards had a fact on the back and not just the Pieces of the Past logo.

    Hi Mathew,

Each card in this set actually does show the exact item and includes a description! Take a look at the George Washington Podium Slide.
