What's buzz-worthy: Pieces of the Past focuses on people who invented notable things -- one being basketball creator Dr. James Naismith as seen here -- in a release that meshes memorabilia cards with flashy and colorful modern cardboard, too.

The Basics: There will be 60 base cards to chase in this one with 100 more cards on the checklist for memorabilia. Silver Mirror, Red Mirror (/50) and Gold Mirror (/10) cards will be found for the base set, while jumbo, single, dual, triple and quad cards will be found for the memorabilia set. What's going into the cards? Samples of handwriting, cut signatures, stock certificates, patents and more -- and there will be redemptions for full-size documents as well as signed stock certificates from the past. Who's going onto the cards? Among the subjects are Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, George Washington Carver, Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, Nancy Johnson, Rosalind Franklin, Maria E. Beasley, Henry Ford, Nikola Tesla, Alexander Graham Bell, James Naismith, Albert Einstein and Louis Pasteur for starters. ... Packs will include three other cards beyond the hit, while parallels for the silver rainbow memorabilia cards also will include 1/1 cracked ice foils. Boxes will carry a suggested retail price of $79.95.
