New Transformers cards coming after Kickstarter campaign

Their 40th anniversary will be celebrated in style.

A Kickstarter campaign to bring a new set of Transformers cards to life was funded in minutes and a number of options for collectors to partake in their celebration of the 1980s toys and now television and film icons.

Dynamite Entertainment is behind the Transformers 40th Anniversary Trading Cards set with pledges topping $180,000 so far via more than 700 backers after having a goal of only $19,840 when it launched -- there are 25 days left, too, to grab some premium pieces such as sketch cards alongside various packages.

Two packaging formats will be used for this one -- a Collector's Series and an Ultra-Premium Series -- with different approaches.

The Collector's Series packs will include 10 cards with base, Holofoil parallels, autographed cards, Metal cards and Creators cards. Overall, there will be 110 base cards with parallels, six autos, 12 Creators and four Metal cards with an additional chase being sketch cards in those packs. Boxes will include 24 packs.

The Ultra-Premium packs will include seven cards -- two base, two sketches, one line-art card, one autograph and one Connecting Card -- with that collection including 18 base, 12 line-art, six autos, nine Connecting Cards, four box-topper cards and, yes, they'll also have sketches. There will be 12 packs per box here.

Also in play will be a complete set format with all 110 base, 110 Rainbow Holofoil, 12 Creator cards (six from Bob Budiansky, six from Simon Furman) and then randomly inserted cards will be 40 1/1 "unique single-print cards" and 1/1 sketch cards, too. A binder also will be available as well as an uncut sheet that's signed, a Kickstarter-only Metal set and a lot more -- and there are still incentives that have not yet been hit to add more to the package for backers.
