One To Watch: Barcelona soccer star Lamine Yamal

Collectors love lists -- whether it's a checklist, a hot list, a stat sheet, sales stats or prospect rankings -- and in some cases what's on those lists is an easy sign of who's next. Or, it's somebody who's already on the radar of many but should be a name you know if you don't.

Barcelona soccer star Lamine Yamal is one of those names, is just 17 years old and sits atop this list from GiveMeSport that ranks its best players in the world under age 21. He's ahead of other names you might know if you're in the soccer collecting realm such as Jude Bellingham, Jamal Musiala and Endrick

Yamal has plenty of cardboard right now -- and plenty of interest -- and here's a tip sheet of sorts for where he can be found.

With his arrival on the international stage as a 16-year-old, his cardboard basically begins with 2023-24 appearances and he's got cards from Topps, Panini America and a much smaller lineup from Leaf Trading Cards -- with more likely on the way with new releases from all of these companies, too. In all, he's easily pushing 1,000 different cards already thanks to parallels, inserts and plenty of autographs (in some of them) in most all releases.

For 2023-24 soccer releases released in packs, he's got cards in Topps Finest UEFA Club, Merlin Club, Stadium Club Chrome Champions League, Topps Chrome Euro, Topps Chrome Club as well as its Sapphire Edition counterpart, Topps Gold, Topps Knockout, Merlin Heritage, Museum Collection Champions League and Topps Club Competitions. These, along with a FC Barcelona team set, where he's got plenty of ink, and then Topps Now and a Living Set debut make up about half of his cards. For Panini America releases that year, he appears in Select FIFA, Select LaLiga, Donruss, Obsidian and also Adrenalyn for gaming-minded collectors. The brands where he's, statistically speaking, found the most? Select (both sets), Donruss, Chrome, Finest and Merlin. His autograph volume is highest in Museum Collection, Chrome, Finest, Stadium Club and Merlin, though most of the brands have some kind of ink -- though he can be in lower volume per card in many of these. ... The 2024-25 soccer card season is just getting going but one can expect to find him there as well as in multi-sport releases. (His Leaf stuff is in 2024 Pro Set Pure and the recently released Leaf Metal Exotic Military for example and there may be more than just those seen on eBay.)
