Panini Prizm NBA started big but 2019-20 may be biggest ever

.It's not the most-expensive brand on the Panini America NBA new-release calendar, but it might be the one that generates the best returns for those collectors lucky enough to land the right rookie in the right color.
It's Panini Prizm and this year's edition, powered by No. 1 pick Zion Williamson, appears poised to be the biggest release of them all from a brand that's been around for seven years and has been known for big-money cards that don't even need autographs or memorabilia to get there -- just some shine and some shade.
Don't believe it? Consider just the final card added to the montage above -- that Luka Doncic 1/1 card topped $40,000 when it recently sold on eBay. (Click this link if you don't believe it.)
Prizm first arrived back for the 2012-13 cardboard season with a double class of Rookie Cards following the NBA's 2011 lockout and it's included a dazzling array of colorful and rare parallel cards for all players in the set during that time, too. There are autographs filling those hot (and now pricier) boxes as well, but the key guys with their colors -- and even their Silver Prizms without color -- dominate the boards like Dennis Rodman. (Check out the gallery below for some basics on the cards above.)
Prizm's boxes aren't initially all that rare -- it's an available brand -- but that changes rather dramatically over a short amount of time once released because of demand and the volume ripped. (Other brands have this same "problem" per se, but the NBA's global appeal makes it that much more rapid-fire ripping.) The 2012-13 Panini Prizm boxes, for example, are pricey now with a single sealed hobby box competing with the original case price. Blowout is even buying sealed cases -- info here.
Here's a rundown of Prizm boxes (various formats at each link) presently available:
