The biggest weekend in pro wrestling is here with WrestleMania 40 set for this Saturday and Sunday from Philadelphia. We'll make today a big one for wrestling collectors right here on The Buzz with #BuzzMania7, a marathon of WWE wax box/pack breaks all day long.

This one is a sometimes erratic one when it comes to blasters, but I wouldn't have it any other way when the price is this right. What makes it erratic? The hits don't seem as regular in this format -- cases can run hot or cold -- but it's a release so packed with young stars on real RCs that cheap stockpiling of this one is fun. And this case? It brought some weird to it, too ... so weird that this one opens the show this year.

Buzz buys and busts a lot of boxes right here for Buzz Breaks, but one of my goals is to rip a little less and talk more about cardboard that I -- and you -- might like. One way to do that? Simple show and tell -- present a few pick-ups and say why they captured my attention.

So, with all that said, here are a few Buzz Buys ... a mix of newer pick-ups and some retro/oddball finds.

A SIMPLE VARIATION
The Card: Bryce Young 2023 Panini Prizm Draft Picks Variations Silver parallel
The Price: $9.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This one caught my attention out there in the world with it being the antithesis of a lot of draft cards these days -- a helmet-less studio portrait -- so I bit. It looked clean and potentially slab-worthy but after how his rookie season went I might wait and see if others go the slab route and I'll pick theirs off rather than sub this one. Or, over the long haul, maybe this will make its way into my submissions -- but it's not a priority at the moment. We'll see. Either way, I like this card and no matter what he does in the NFL he's always got a spot of some sort in the school ties part of my collection.

Like many collectors, Buzz is a fan of grading and knows that there are many reasons that collectors choose to slab cards. Sometimes it's to enhance the appeal and protect them when selling. Other times it's to protect an investment for the long-term or to protect for sentimental reasons. Or, it might be just for fun or curiosity about a potential grade.

Here's this month's grading diary here on The Buzz ...

A FIRST FOR ME ...
The Card: Bo Bichette 2022 Topps Chrome Logofractor Edition Blue Refractor (/150)
The Reason Graded: If you're a regular reader, then you know that Bichette is perhaps my leading active player who I collect (casually ... as he's expensive). That means I dabble merely with what I like, what's a bargain and so on. In some cases, I'll grab a striking color of parallel or an appropriate shade from a certain brand that stands out from the rest and this Blue parallel fits right there along with this being a Logofractor parallel. Why did I grab this and then slab it? Well, the price was right (under $10 during the season) and it was one of few centered copies I saw and it was one that avoided a possible pattern gap in the logos that seemed to land on his cards often. When I grabbed this, it also became my first COMC pick-up to go directly to CGC for grading while all in their hands rather than starting out in mine.
The Grade: CSG 10

Reality Check: It came back with an ideal mark, which is what I had hoped for, though you never know with surfaces of cards ... that's about the only big risk of buying/subbing stuff there at the moment other than corners, which should be a smidge more obvious on screen -- but not always. My total cost for card and grading here? Under $24 and it only took about a month to get it back. That's a move I've actually done a few times late last year as my goal of sending in some new stuff for slabbing didn't happen on the card side of things before 2023 had ended. There will be plenty more in 2024 -- cards, comics, coins magazines ... and more.

IS HE THE ONE?
The Item: Julio Rodriguez 2022 Topps Heritage High Number Clubhouse Collection Gold Relics (/99)
The Price: $149.99 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: With the absolute deluge of December MLB releases that appear to be just the start of a busy off-season with more still to come, I've played the waiting game on opening boxes on almost all -- but not all -- of them. One I have opened was this one, Heritage High, as it impressed me on its rookie volume (some RCs, some guys who had 2021s) and the appearance of the J-Rod stuff to be found. Why Heritage? It's more my old-guy flagship release each year ... though the 1970s designs are easily my least-favorite of all of the past decades so far and even of those to come. But the images on his cards are solid ... and this is a good example. Sure, it's pricey, but this card is a needle in a haystack in terms of pulling it and it's pricey -- but not that pricey -- vs. a lot of stuff. Heritage rookies are not going to be all that expensive in High Number as you come very close to a base set in every hobby box ... but I like that. It lets you do some old-fashioned stockpiling with the challenge really being clean copies that can be graded. (I plan to already and will ... yes, on base.) This one is a solid piece for an iconic 2022 player with potential and a long-term commitment from the team. I'll probably kick myself later for not grabbing this particular card or something like it. But I'll be watching them.

CHASING AARON JUDGE INK ...

First, I'll mention with my picks here that I do my shopping mostly on the traditional low-end to the mid-range stuff in the not-so-distant past -- so a box like this might be closer to my high-end of things when it comes to risk factor ... but a rough box here will still give you nothing but autographs. The biggest names her? Aaron Judge, Byron Buxton, Julio Urias, Kris Bryant, Xander Bogearts, Carlos Correa, Noah Syndergaard, Jose Abreu, Nick Castellanos, George Springer and many others who are still around the bigs (and some who are definitely not). There are a lot of parallels in play here, too, with some other stuff like printing plates, dual-auto cards, patch autos and even booklets. But if you land Aaron Judge he pays for the box ... and maybe more if it's a rarer version. Every box includes five cards -- five shots at him and other names here ... and they weren't short-printed signers back then, either.
