Adam Duvall
Collecting Game-used: A full at-bat and an impressive hit, too
This is quite possibly my best grab-bag buy ever.
This latest ball in the Collecting Game-used series is one where there's a franchise icon attached, an entire at-bat and even an impressive hit all in one. I can't say that I've ever landed that from what's essentially a blind grab-bag kind of buy, but that happened for me with a ball that was pulled from the field less than two months ago before making its way into my collection this week for just $29.95 -- substantially less than a Chrome blaster box out there in the retail wild and perhaps substantially less than it might cost as a known hit ball with the big name attached. The only thing I had a choice in here? I picked the date -- so I knew the two teams that would be attached and that's it.

Buzz Buys: Rhea Ripley, Hammerin' Hank, throwback publicity, un-corrected errors, vintage, movies, mags, comics, & more
Buzz buys and busts a lot of boxes right here for Buzz Breaks, but one of my goals is to rip a little less and talk more about cardboard that I -- and you -- might like. One way to do that? Simple show and tell -- present a few pick-ups and say why they captured my attention.
So, with all that said, here are a few Buzz Buys ...
--
HER TIME IS NOW ...
The Cards: Rhea Ripley 2020 Topps Transcendent WWE (/50) -- Rookie Card
The Price: Less than some of your new boxes out there
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This one is more of a long-term buying project for me as I think Ripley has the potential to be an all-time great in the WWE's women's ranks. She's only 26 and has literally been wrestling half of her life, already has held WWE gold and this is her premium-brand Rookie Card (gaming cards don't count in my world) that has an iconic pose and is limited to only 50 copies. This one also is easily among the priciest of the unsigned cards in this pricey set that was made to be broken up. Only three of these are new additions for me but I had to take a pic of all five together as a bit of a brag -- I don't do that a lot and I don't like to give the prices when I spend big on stuff -- but this is a card I like ... and I'm definitely not done yet. She has other Rookie Cards (with logos ... this set didn't use them) from 2020 but this one will always be the best in my book and we know exactly how many exist and that it cost plenty for somebody else to land one. She's got another WrestleMania match against an all-time great, Charlotte Flair, here soon and I don't know exactly how that might go ... but I do know she's definitely worthy of a long and dominating title reign and a smackdown of a great would solidify her place. I think her time is now.

Collecting Game-used: A few pitches away from the big one
Sometimes, you can still get a surprise from the bargain bin.
Is that the case with this one this time? Perhaps ... but it's not something that will add much value per se. It is, however, something that could make a simple item like a game-used baseball seem a little more interesting than, say, the scuffs or dirt that pop up on them from time to time.

Scott Schebler's autographs can be found in just one place -- and same goes for his lone Rookie Card
Scott Schebler is this year's Adam Duvall -- a hard-hitting Cincinnati Reds outfielder who's come out of nowhere to hit a boatload of home runs.
Schebler's present stat line stands at 15 homers and 29 RBI through his first 48 games where he's hitting .247. It's a home run mark that puts him tied for fifth in the majors and tops in the National League beside Bryce Harper. (Duvall is one shot behind them on the NL list.)
Unlike Duvall, whose arrival last year was at a time where he had no certified autographs, Schebler's is one where he's got autographs -- but only in a single past release.

Sweet 16: MLB midseason surprises include unknowns & obvious
The MLB All-Star Game is nearly upon us and that gives us all a chance to take a break and assess the season so far and watch the home runs fly in tonight's Home Run Derby.
One of those sluggers is Cincinnati's Adam Duvall, who has 23 homers out of absolute nowhere and nearly no cardboard to show for it. As previously noted here on The Buzz, Duvall's first Rookie Card arrived in 2016 Topps Series 2. And to show how off the radar he's been he's a third-year big-leaguer with just one past Bowman card appearance -- no autographs -- and this Rookie Card is one that doesn't even have an RC logo. That probably hasn't helped sales, but some rarities are sellers.
There are other big names in the hobby this season who have played well -- in fact there are a lot of decent showings -- but here are 15 who have impressed on the field and should be noticed when it comes to cardboard.

Reds' new slugger Adam Duvall has first RCs in 2016 Topps Series 2
One of this year's hidden gems on the field is nearly the same thing off of it -- or at least on cardboard.
In an era of prospect cards made sometimes years before a player even sees an MLB field, Cincinnati Reds outfielder Adam Duvall is a bit of an enigma. Make that an enigma who has 18 home runs this season after a 9-8 victory over the Atlanta Braves Monday night where he led off the game with a two-run shot in the first.
And make that an enigma without a lot of cardboard.
