Buzz Buys ... A LOT of 1991 Action Packed NFL football cards
Buzz buys a lot of stuff these days and for a few reasons, really. Sometimes it's just bargain-hunting, sometimes it's just something that strikes me. And other times it's a lot -- a group of things -- and that has happened enough lately I figured I'd try something different as a regularly appearing item. Sometimes my lots will be wins, sometimes they won't be ... but I'll let you decide.

GOOD AS GOLDEN
The Lot: An album of 1991 Action Packed NFL Series 1 football cards
The Price: $9.99The Tease: What you see above is really the key here for this first Buzz Buys lot item. Why? Well, while the special cards seen above aren't all that pricey they're not all that commonly found. That wasn't the case this time, though ...

Making the Grade (Feb.): Grabbing Rookie Cards, NFL slabs, Mickey Mantle, Trish Stratus & slabbed mem-card challenges
Like many collectors, Buzz is a fan of grading and knows that there are many reasons that collectors choose to slab cards. Sometimes it's to enhance the appeal and protect them when selling. Other times it's to protect an investment for the long-term or to protect for sentimental reasons. Or, it might be just for fun or curiosity about a potential grade.
Here's this month's grading diary here on The Buzz ... it's a mix of some new, some old and some football since that season is winding down fast.
NOW'S THE TIME TO BUY ...
The Card: Gleyber Torres 2018 Topps Heritage High Number #603 -- Rookie Card
The Reason Bought: I grabbed this one some time ago because it was on the cheaper side of things and a key Rookie Card in a key release. I own a bunch of these raw but landed this for literally less than it likely would have cost me to grade one (at least if I wanted to get it back in hand this year). The cost? Just $10. So, why do I have this one batting lead-off? A reminder that now is the time to be buying up younger baseball guys ... not when there's hype from spring training (even if that might be delayed).
The Grade: BGS 9Grade 5.5 6 6.5 7 7.5 8 8.5 9 9.5 10 B10 Total Population 0 0 0 0 0 1 17 18 80 3 0 119 Reality Check: I'm fine with nines and I didn't check the pop report when grabbing this one, which checks in under the most-commonly landed grade. No biggie ... I'm sure the 9.5s that don't always look obviously better cost a lot more than what I paid. There are no sub-grades here, but it seems pretty obvious that the centering is slightly off on this copy but everything else looks pretty good.

Black Friday Wave 5 -- here are five deals to consider
If you hadn't noticed, our fifth wave of Black Friday boxes with discounted prices just dropped right now right here as BlowoutCards.com is bringing a wave approach to today's sales.
Here are five boxes/cases that caught this collector’s eye in this wave.
2017 Panini Crown Royale NFL retail premium box
This wave might be the strongest of them all if you ask me and this box's potential is one big reason why I say that. Back when I opened my only box of this one, I landed a Christian McCaffrey Platinum Rookie Card parallel -- a big deal this season -- but that's not the biggest rookie here ... you have a shot at Patrick Mahomes RCs and their parallels as well as ink and memorabilia cards. You get two hits per box here -- one auto, one mem -- and the strong rookie crop makes it a no-brainer at a price not dramatically higher than it was back when it arrived. It's not the flashiest design, but it's got some good potential.Buzz 8 in 8: Busting 1991 Pro Set Series 1 NFL cards (Hour 6)

Buzz Buys: I am Groot, vintage Topps proofs, Stranger Things & WWE ink, a NASCAR icon, Japanese baseball stars & more
Buzz buys and busts a lot of boxes right here for Buzz Breaks, but one of my goals just might be to rip fewer blasters this year and talk more about cardboard that I -- and you -- might like. One way to do that? Simple show and tell -- present a few pick-ups and say why they captured my attention. Would they capture yours? I'd be interested to know -- sometimes they might, sometimes they won't and that's fine. It's a buyer's market out there with plenty of options and bargains as well as high-end gems to chase.
So, with all that said, here are a few Buzz Buys ... and this time around they're a little pricer than my normal pick-ups.

I AM GROOT ...
The Card: Groot 2018-19 Upper Deck Marvel Annual sketch card -- artist: Poognasty (1/1)
The Price: $21.25
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: I did a double-take when I saw the detail of this sketch card in comparison to its price. While sketch cards can get super cheap these days -- even for full-color comic sets -- that's often due to quality of the work. This one seems like it was seriously underpriced. Groot is one of the more unique characters in the Marvel universe these days, though he's more of a merch machine in his child years vs. adult years seen here. Either way, this one was striking and I had little hesitation picking this one up. That's easily the most I've spent on a sketch card but it's by far my best one, too.

THE NBA'S NEW BIG THING?
The Item: Luka Doncic 2018-19 Panini Prizm Gold Autograph (/10)
The Price: $9,999.99 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: You might think this price is lofty -- it is -- but the completed auctions for this star are still just as crazy. Why? Through his first 21 games, the No. 3 pick in the draft has averaged 18.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game for the Mavericks. It doesn't hurt that this is a popular brand with NBA fans and it has a relatively deep checklist meaning you won't find him as easily as you might think in any color -- though nothing is impossible and the rookies have a good presence around the product.
