If Tom Jackson calls it a career, maybe he'll have time for cardboard
He's been in the public eye as an NFL player and ESPN analyst every year since 1973, but Tom Jackson may finally have time to do something he's rarely done before.Sign autographs for a card company and appear on some football cards.
The New York Daily News is reporting that Jackson may be leaving ESPN, where he's been part of NFL broadcasts since 1987. It's been a successful run, and, in 2015, he received the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award which honors “longtime exceptional contributions to radio and television in professional football.”
Jackson's NFL career ended the season before his ESPN arrival and it's a career that's rarely seen on cardboard despite an explosion in card products in all those years since.
You'll need to turn back clock & look for some Topps Mayo football packs to land Tim Kaine's "Rookie Card"
Hillary Clinton's selection for her vice-presidential running mate appears on a handful of trading cards, but you'll have to go find some old packs of football cards to find his first one.Virginia Senator and former Virginia Governor Tim Kaine first appeared on cardboard back in 2009 when Topps released an Allen & Ginter-styled football set called Topps Mayo.
There, in the 2009 Topps Mayo United States Governors insert set you'll find him nestled between James H. Douglas and Christine Gregoire in the 50-card set. These cards were among a few mini insert sets with cards found six times per hobby box.
That makes this a bit of a tough pull, but it's not his only cardboard.

Buzz Poll: Now what for Deflategate's main players?
Unless the Supreme Court opts to hear his case, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will be suspended for the first four games of this season for his alleged role in the Deflategate scandal. This puts the focus solely on Jimmy Garoppolo and the franchise in his hands. He's a guy who has completed 20 of 31 passes for 188 yards and a touchdown in 11 games over two seasons. As a recently drafted rookie found throughout 2014 brands, he's got plenty of cardboard for collectors to speculate with and that got Buzz wondering what you guys thought ...

Panini changes Black Gold Collegiate to football-only release

Panini America's Black Gold brand is changing gears for its next release. The previously solicited 2016 Panini Black Gold Collegiate was set to arrive as a multi-sport set on July 27 with four autograph or memorabilia cards per two-pack box. Now, it will be a football-only release with the same case price and suggested retail price but with better content for what the company calls an "extremely limited release."
Gallery: Panini America teases autos to come in several brands
Panini America has plenty of products coming up packed with plenty of ink -- and it unleashed a gallery of images to prove it.The company's big three sports are represented and some of the biggest names in the games are in there, too.
Just because it's old doesn't mean the historic gems aren't in there

Plenty has changed in the sports card world in the last decade and BlowoutTV had a group break on Monday afternoon that proved it.The break was a case of 2006 National Treasures football cards -- a case that was made by a company that no longer exists but a lineage that continues today with Panini America.
Getting in on the break wasn't bad -- a four-box case ran just over $100 for two teams per spot -- and it reinforced the notion that old wax can still pack surprises no matter what changes in the hobby.
In fact, the final card in the final box was of a Hall of Famer -- a 1/1 autograph of a Super Bowl-winning quarterback.
UFC 200's wildcard Brock Lesnar has cards from several fields
The "Biggest, Baddest Card Ever" is how tonight's UFC 200 is billed and it's had its fair share of drama when it comes to the card itself. And there's plenty of cardboard to be found for it, too, with Topps on site for the UFC Expo with promo cards (though not as many as it had planned due to the Jon Jones-forced card change) and it will have even more cardboard with the launch of Topps Now UFC with this event.
But the one player on the card tonight in Las Vegas who doesn't have any new cards -- but should figure into the show prominently win or lose -- is current WWE fighter Brock Lesnar, who is making a one-time (or is it?) return to the Octagon with his organization's approval (or is it the sign of something more?) for the fight. (Update: Lesnar has been added to the Topps Now debut checklist after his win.)
He's got plenty of cardboard.
