Collecting Pregame-used: A Philly special from 2017-18
With the sports world in a massive pause with everything in flux -- a weird time for sure -- I figured I'd go with the weird item in the Collecting Game-used series this month.
And you can actually call this one "Collecting Pregame-used."
The item you see above is a shirt presented to and used by an NBA player not long ago (and who was having a pretty solid campaign this year) and it's not some super-pricey piece or relatively amazing visual, though you should know some of the faces on the front. However, it was a series of locker room photos about what the team had planned for this marketing event that got me to jump on this one.
You can keep reading to see the details ... and the item in action (sorta).
Making the Grade (March): Young MVPs, iconic Hall of Famers, Silent Bob, March Madness, a Future Superstar & more
Like many collectors, Buzz is a fan of grading and knows that there are many reasons that collectors choose to slab cards. Sometimes it's to enhance the appeal and protect them when selling. Other times it's to protect an investment for the long-term or to protect for sentimental reasons. Or, it might be just for fun or curiosity about a potential grade.
Here's this month's grading diary here on The Buzz ...
The Card: 2014 Topps Chrome Update #MB46 Mookie Betts RC
The Reason Graded: I didn't buy a ton of Mega Boxes when these arrived five years ago, but I did land this card, which is a Rookie Debut version for then Red Sox rookie and now-reigning American League MVP Mookie Betts. This card is an ironic classic in that he's captured taking the field at Yankee Stadium. That aspect of the photo isn't as easily seen in Chrome form, but I opted to get this pricier version of the card graded. I'll probably grade some more of my others in the future. For now, though, this one leads the way.
The Grade: BGS 9.5Grade 5.5 6 6.5 7 7.5 8 8.5 9 9.5 10 B10 Total Population 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 4 18 0 0 23 Reality Check: I wasn't that confident in this one as I just have bad luck at times with Chrome cards, but this one turns out to be one of the highest-graded copies. I'll take it, especially considering what I've got up next.

Orlando Magic fans can land free autographs from franchise great Nick Anderson on Saturday during an appearance in Central Florida.
Big League Cards in Casselberry, Fla., is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a free signing tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m.
“It is so exciting to have Nick Anderson join us at Big League during our 25th anniversary Golden Ticket event," said Alan Narz, owner of Big League. Aaron Gordon may not have won dunk contest, but his cards might be winner from NBA All-Star weekend
Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon may not have won the NBA's slam dunk contest during the All-Star weekend, but he's arguably the biggest winner on cardboard from the midseason showcase.
The story lines heading into this one revolved around the big names -- the biggest name and story being the final All-Star appearance for Kobe Bryant -- and the game's MVP was a big and well-collected name, too, in Russell Westbrook. Even the dunk contest winner, Zach LaVine, was already well-known with his status as last year's winner.
Gordon is the one who was introduced to the world -- or at least the world of casual basketball fans and collectors.
Karl-Anthony Towns is off to a historic start in the NBA -- and his autographs just might be, too
Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns is off to a historic start after his first five games as an NBA rookie.
On Saturday, the No. 1 overall pick scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against the Chicago Bulls, putting him in some elite company.
