New VeeFriends Chrome set joins a rich cardboard legacy

The latest might be the greatest -- so far -- but there are plenty of past VeeFriends to collect if one decides to go there ... and it appears that quite a few of you do.
This newest release, Topps VeeFriends Chrome 2025, is packed with flashy characters and sets -- we'll get to those later -- and it's been a near-instant sellout at that link. But, there are two previous sets that paved the way for this one that might be worth looking at before exploring this new one.The O.G. was VeeFriends x zerocool Series 1, a collection that arrived in 2022 with 268 characters and 15 sketches that introduced Series 2 characters. It "was designed to bridge the gap between NFTs and real-world collectibles, allowing collectors to own physical versions of their VeeFriends Series 1 NFTs," per the company.
That first one was in a premium format and a limited release of only 1,000 boxes (250 cases) showcasing characters drawn and created by the guru behind it all, Gary Vaynerchuk, while the second series introduced them as "fully personified and colored characters" in a collection of more than 250 characters and also almost 100 additional other cards. It took on more of a modern gaming trading card game form. Both series have NFT counterparts and include rarer finds among the various tiers and autographed cards from Vaynerchuk. (You also might want to see this box in the Blowout store for a different option.)
What is VeeFriends some might ask? It "combines stories, games, events, collectibles, and technology to build a community around a movement of kindness and accountability," the company said, using their "characters and their attributes to create a better world. These characters foster a sense of community and inspire creativity, self-discovery, accountability, and personal growth."
What kind of interest and demand was there for these sets? Well, anybody who was at the National Sports Collectors Convention in recent years likely remembers their colorful and busy booth -- at a sports card show -- but don't take our word for it. Just click here for a look at eBay sales. There's big interest.
And now, this newest set introduces something into the mix that wasn't there before -- the power of Chrome. Let's take a look at what's in there this time.

Blowout Cards is buying sealed junk wax era Topps MLB cases

Some call it the junk wax era, but it's a time where many fans were collecting, many more were stockpiling and everybody seemingly enjoyed some classic cardboard and memorable Rookie Cards for some of the biggest stars and record-breakers in modern baseball -- and it wasn't just MLB cardboard that entered the public consciousness, either.
Plenty of fans were interested -- and plenty of everything was made back then -- and, in the here and now of 2025, BlowoutCards.com is buying.

Buzz Buys (April): Wrestlemania notables, vintage Hollywood, Bo Bichette, Alabama football icons & more stockpiled faves

Here's this month's roundup of items that have recently caught my eye as a buyer ...
--
'TIS THE SEASON
The Card: Rhea Ripley 2020 Topps Chrome WWE Refractor autographed Rookie Card parallel (BGS 9, 10 auto -- BAS & Fanatics Witnessed)
The Price: Less than a 2025 Topps Chrome WWE retail mega box these days
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: She's one of WWE's top stars and this was a key card at a somewhat-modest price considering it's a RC parallel with ink attached -- and it's fully graded, too. Sure, that's not the "Mami" mode/look of Ripley in the here and now -- her hair and look changed a lot while in NXT and early on -- but that different does reinforce "rookie" in a visual way along with that gear. I'm sure I have a copy of this card in my stash unsigned somewhere -- and I know I have a couple colors of her certified auto here -- but this was still an easy addition and an easy choice to lead things off this month. Why? Since it's Wrestlemania season (the big one is on April 19-20). Oh, and there might be (intentionally) a little more wrestling this time vs. my norm, too. Ripley has a lot of cardboard but is among the safest bets there is to grab bargains and stash them away. Why? She's only 28 and has been in the game more than a decade and there figures to be plenty more to come for her in WWE. Interestingly, this one is also graded and in the BGS pop report, so it could have led off Making The Grade this month. It's a pop-three card with one lower and one higher, a 9.5, with five total copies graded.
Grab a box right here: Nothing for this ... but WWE cards are here.Keep reading for more interesting items ...

Book It, Buzz: Adding a comedy great for less than $10

For years now, autographed books coming direct from the publishers -- or direct from the authors themselves -- have been an affordable way to collect ink from notable names in all realms of pop culture.
It's not a perfect system with stamped autos, fakes and autopens sometimes in the mix -- a problem for publishers to catch as they are not authenticators -- but thanks to dedicated collectors on the Blowout Cards Forum and elsewhere, those problems often get caught and fixed ... or at least become well-known enough to avoid if it's an issue that goes uncorrected.
Getting ink in-person is always best -- book tours still happen, of course -- but landing autographed editions from publishers, online sellers or celebs themselves via their websites or other appearances are common.
Our latest subject and autograph in this ongoing series? Comedian and actor George Lopez.

Artistic flair, international appeal add to MLB box's demand

It's got a special price today (click here) but that's no joke -- this one has big potential to go with that big discount.
The 2025 Topps Baseball MLB World Tour Tokyo Series Takashi Murakami set is one that's all about baseball but with art from the iconic pop artist in there, too, as it showcases the two teams that recently faced off in the Tokyo Series to start the baseball season.
It's one that's been in big demand because of that star power, the artistic touches that make this one unique and the rarities that are possible as part of a small package of 25 card with one bonus card guaranteed. Hundreds of eBay auctions have topped the $500 mark for boxes of this release, which was initially limited in its scope via Complex but hitting hobby channels now.
What's in it? Keep reading ...
