Ticket Stud or Ticket Dud? You decide ... here's Chapter 41
This entry was posted on March 27, 2024
.With these Ticket Stud or Ticket Dud stories I'm turning just a tiny bit of that energy just a few degrees away from cards (we'll still have plenty of them here) for a different kind of cardboard. What am I doing? Simple ... this is an occasional dip into some random ticket lots -- a show and tell showing something small with a story.
This time? One from this day in baseball ... back in 2010.
Keep reading to see the details this time ... and tell me if you think it's a Ticket Stud or a Ticket Dud.
THE DETAILS ...
The Category: Major League Baseball (spring training)
The Events: New York Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers
The Results: Yankees 2, Tigers 1
The Attendance: 10,219 at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Fla.
The Price: $15
The Cost (for me): Pocket change as part of a bulk lot
The Ticket Studs (Key Players): Former Tigers Curtis Granderson (two hits, RBI) and Marcus Thames (HR) drove in both runs vs. their former team.
Others: Yankees RP Joba Chamberlain (save), Yankees SP A.J. Burnett (six-plus innings), Tigers OF Magglio Ordonez (RBI), Yankees C Jorge Posada (2-for-4, run), Tigers OF Johnny Damon (1-for-2), Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera (1-for-3, SB), Tigers MGR Jim Leyland

What's Buzz-worthy: Visually, this one is a vibrant and semi-retro look for a ticket with the orange and the Lakeland Flying Tigers logo stealing the show and it's a ticket that has a lot of big names attached to it, too. Important ticket? Nah, but at least there are some notables in the box score here for a spring wrap-up game today back in the day -- one with a record-setting crowd, according to The Associated Press.
Stud or Dud? Visually, I think it's a stud. This is the kind of ticket with enough color and open space where ink from Granderson or Cabrera might work if signed tickets are your thing. Value-wise? Nah ... it's a dud ... but it's a simple and clean mystery box find for me that led it here. I've seen worse-looking tickets for sure.
