Ticket Stud or Ticket Dud? You decide ... here's Chapter 44

With these Ticket Stud or Ticket Dud stories I'm turning just a tiny bit of that energy just a few degrees away from cards (we'll still have plenty of them here) for a different kind of cardboard. What am I doing? Simple ... this is an occasional dip into some random ticket lots -- a show and tell showing something small with a story.

This time? A big night for one rookie six years ago tomorrow night in The Bronx.

Keep reading to see the details this time ... and tell me if you think it's a Ticket Stud or a Ticket Dud.

What's Buzz-worthy: I've come across a lot of Yankees tickets in the couple of mystery boxes I've grabbed to do this series, but other than being sometimes elegant with pinstriped designs or showing icons from the past they're mostly drab colors and most showcase lesser names or names who were bigger in the past. This time? A relatively big name (who was bigger in the past) but on a day where he did actually pitch, which is a plus ... until you see the box score. It wasn't an awful game for the Japanese star but it tuned out to be a worse one for the Yankees after the 23-year-old Rangers rookie became the first newcomer in MLB history to hit three homers in a game against them. Guzman finished that season with a career-high 16 but only ended up with 15 more in four more seasons' worth of appearances ... and two of those "seasons" were a total of 10 games played. (Ironically, the final three games were as a Yankee in 2022.) In short, this is arguably Guzman's best day of his career and perhaps his best ticket other than maybe his MLB debut.

Stud or Dud? This one is a stud. Visually it's a bit drab like many Yanks tickets but for Guzman it's a biggie. An auto from either player here would be cool.
