What's Buzz-worthy: This pack was to me, in most ways, a dud -- average only because its lone insert is a former big-leaguer and a player I've met -- with almost everything else being not of note all these years later. At the time this one arrived, the Appel might have had some extra appeal as he was the first pick in the 2013 MLB Draft out of Stanford. He has an unusual MLB story as he didn't make the majors until 2022 at age 30 with the Phillies -- he was out of baseball from 2018 to 2021. So ... why open this? Well, this is one year of H MiLB that I didn't open much of for some reason -- I probably overdid it on the regular H as I think the 1965 Topps design also used here is easily among Topps' best ever. A better reason why? Some of the names here include Aaron Judge, Carlos Correa, Byron Buxton, Kris Bryant, Max Fried, Javier Baez, Francisco Lindor, Matt Olson, Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow and Noah Syndergaard along with many who came and went in terms of notable cardboard. The hits aren't quite as strong here, but the box inclusions include a lot of stuff all at modest volumes so a lot has dried up some and will even more over time. That's why I bit on a pack of this -- and it wasn't that cheap at $8.50 -- but who knows when/if I'll see more again in-person to even be tempted. This one is also remarkably cleaner than Heritage MLB stuff of the last few years -- whatever the difference is between the stock of this one vs. now needs to be analyzed and revisited immediately. Admittedly, although it no longer exists, I like Heritage MiLB even if some years simply didn't work well with team names and designs like in 2013. If I see more of this, I probably will rip ... cards here with the familiar names in unfamiliar uniforms really stand out to me ... and they didn't make anywhere near as much of this stuff as the MLB version.
