Buzz Buys (July): Several MLB newcomers and legends, WWE autographs, past TV icons, unusual cardboard and plenty more

Here's this month's roundup of items that have recently caught my eye as a buyer ...

RETRO RECORD-HOLDER
The Card: Roger Maris 2014 Panini Classics Home Run Heroes Jerseys (/25)
The Price: $30
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: I ponied up a little bit for this one vs. my typical range for Maris mem cards since it's a rarer card, has a material (jersey/pants) swatch vs. a bat and is from a brand that packed a lot of potential for big names back in the day. Yet, at the same time, that price was a bargain. Yes, its centering is just slightly off, but otherwise it's clean -- that errant spot on the right side is part of the printed design on all cards here. It was an easy addition for a player I collect and pick off stuff for a few times a year. Those top corners are really clean on this one, which might not always be the case with those bold colors.

TIFFY TIMES 10
The Cards:
Tiffany Stratton 2025 Topps Now WWE 10-pack (/5,584)
The Price:
10-pack price via Topps.com
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This photo from her Wrestlemania debut earlier this year is perfect when it comes to an entrance. Since there were hits, parallels and a variation to chase for this one, I opted for a 10-pack to get in on the chase. None of that happened ... so here are my 10. But, what did happen in that same order? Well, keep reading ...

'TIS THE SEASON
The Card: Joseph Menefee 2018 Panini USA Baseball Stars & Stripes Material Signatures Laundry Tag (/8)
The Price: Under $6
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This laundry tag looked decent enough to me for the price and I figured this month would be the ideal time to post this one. He ended up being a 20th-round pick in 2022 and is still working in the minors this season at age 25 so there's still potential with a card like this, though I just bought it as a cool "type" card.

HIGH-END APPEAL
The Card:
Shotzi Blackheart 2024 Panini Flawless WWE Vertical Autographed Memorabilia Ruby (/15)
The Price:
More than my typical
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Her WWE run recently came to an end and, for now, that likely means an end to new WWE cardboard ... but there's still plenty to chase. I can't grab it all, but what I try to do is find something from the autos in every release and this one checks off one of her cards in this high-end brand that I'll never experience when it comes to opening a box. I'd rather just have cards of names I want vs. take all that risk of the cost of a box.

TWO KURTZ, ONE BRAND
The Cards:
Nick Kurtz 2024 Bowman Draft In Tune & 2024 Bowman Draft Plasma Power
The Price:
About $2 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This super slugger in the minors (eight homers in 21 games) this season, got called up, had an iffy start, got hurt and then returned with some oomph so somewhere along the way I opted to grab a couple super-cheap inserts. Right now he's got 12 homers in 47 games as a rookie for the Not-Oakland/Sac-Vegas A's. Not much more to say than that ... I doubt I'll be collecting here, though it's (historically speaking) my team. Maybe I'll find an auto at some point or some slabs to call it good.

OUT OF THIS GALAXY
The Card:
Koska Reeves (aka Mercedes Moné or Sasha Banks in the wrestling world) 2024 Topps Chrome Star Wars Blaster Red RayWave Refractor
The Price:
$2
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This parallel and its color caught my attention for the price and for the brand. I've slowed to nearly a halt collecting the star previously known as Sasha Banks in WWE but I haven't closed the door. Her Star Wars stuff might be a leading candidate for my casual dabbling until we see a few more new Moné certified autos. I still need something on that front to go with my meaty stash of Banks stuff from back in the day.

FEELING GREEN
The Cards:
Jacob Wilson 2024 Bowman Chrome Prospects Lunar Glow Refractor & 2024 Bowman Prospects Neon Green (/399)
The Price:
Less than $3 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This second-generation MLB player might end up being the American League ROY winner with the first half of his season including a .340 batting average, nine homers and 40 RBI in his first 79 games. He has a lot of prospect cardboard, so I went with a pair in the proper color on the cheap. Like Kurtz, I may dabble with an auto and some slabs if they are appealing on all fronts when they present themselves.

BEWARE OF DANGER
The Card:
Marilyn Monroe Tempo magazine cover (July 4, 1955) -- 1993 Sports Time Marilyn Monroe Cover-Girl Chromium
The Price:
$2.50
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This one popped up on a deep dive in the non-sports realm and there's a good chance this one will end up graded at some point as it's a relatively clean and simple chrome-stock card from long ago. It features a cover from 70 years ago this month -- and it was a lot cheaper to grab this than track down a copy of the mag ... the cheapest on eBay as I prepped this was $75 with highs as big as $165. Centering looks to be an issue on these along with some greening with age on the inks/plastic, but this one is good unless I find a surface issue when I revisit it for a grading sub. It's a simple and strong visual that can make for clean, appealing cards in slabs.

TWO FROM THE SHORE
The Cards:
Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi 2024 Leaf Pop Century Autographs Pre-Production Proofs (Light Blue Kaleidoscope & Gold Crystal) -- both 1/1 cards
The Price:
About $13 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
I definitely didn't need these but seeing the iconic -- I said it -- Jersey Shore name on cardboard struck me as unique and, well, these 1/1s were available and in volume out there in the world (many colors and textures) so I scouted which onesI liked best and bit off these two. Why? I have my eye on an oddball slab here and the general design is pretty firm with everything relatively balanced out and a clean photo. (That's not always easy with non-sports catch-all sets like this.) Why? I actually need something Snooki in my wrestling collection -- she's undefeated at Wrestlemania but never had a card in a WWE set.

TWO TEAMS, ONE YEAR
The Cards:
Agustin Ramirez 2024 Bowman Chrome Prospects Lunar Glow Refractor & 2024 Bowman Draft Chrome Sky Blue Refractor
The Price:
About $7 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This guy had a near-historic opening weekend as a big-leaguer, going he went 4-for-13 with a double and three home runs, including two in one game. After he joined my fantasy team, I did some looking for cardboard and found this pairing that showed Ramirez before and after the Jazz Chisholm trade.

THROWBACK WITH AN EXTRA
The Card:
Hank Aaron 2020 Topps Rookie Card Retrospective Logo Medallions
The Price:
$4
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This Rookie Card reprint on thick stock comes with a little metal inlay that gives us an idea of how a RC logo might have looked way back in 1954. The Hall of Famer and former home run king's Rookie Card probably won't ever enter my collection -- too pricey -- but I did ponder slabbing this card as it's pretty clean and these thick-stock cards do grade well as long as there's no surface or back corner funk. I might ...

BIG, CLEAN INK ...
The Card:
Jose Canseco 2016 Topps High Tek Autographs
The Price:
$12.75
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
I own thousands of his cards -- sometimes with four-figure totals for some single cards -- but I largely never started chasing his hits once that era of cardboard began due to costs as he's always (still is to a degree) in demand. Once I have ink I have ink, so unless it's a really nice card or something impressive I'm probably going to skip it unless the price is right for all but a few names. In this case, the on-card auto, the team shown and the price all aligned for an easy addition. I have a decent amount of his auto cards but not as many from some teams, so that's why they stand out.

LEGENDARY INK
The Item:
Carol Burnett autographed 8-by-10 photo (BAS authenticated)
The Price:
$45
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This comes from a deep dive of an autograph dealer's inventory during Black Friday weekend where the discounts were pretty good and I just wanted to hunt. Did I need an autograph of this comedy legend and icon from the past? Probably not, but she's a Presidential Medal of Freedom winner, a TV Hall of Famer, a multi-time Golden Globe winner, a Primetime Emmy winner (25 times for her comedy show alone), a Grammy winner and more -- a big, big name who turned 92 years old in April. There are a lot of people out there who appreciate all of her past projects and might not mind the ink. Here's a recent interview looking back at her career, which has spanned more than 70 years.

A RECENT-YEARS THROWBACK
The Card:
Thunder Rosa 2022 Skybox Metal Universe AEW Jambalaya Retro Achievements
The Price:
$32.25
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This set is an homage to a popular 1990s NBA set that commands big money for big names, but, well, that was all stuff I didn't dabble with because of the cost and never seeing those sets where I lived back then. I ponied up a little but for this one since it's really different and I have been dabbling with Rosa slabs here and there on the wrestling front. The centering is perhaps off slightly but I think it's also designed that way, making it tough to gauge how well this might grade -- so that's why I haven't gone there ... yet. The back edges on the diecuts can also be rough cuts and seen easily since the ink is dark.

REMEMBER ME?
The Cards:
Randy Arozarena 2020 Topps X Gregory Siff World Series (/1,234) & Mark McGwire 2020 Topps Project 2020 by Fucci (/5,092)
The Price:
Free (throw-ins with a bulk wax lot)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Project 2020 was sooo long ago already and its companion/spawned sets showing artists' MLB-tied creations are all out there en masse now, too, after they were bought en masse. There are still some I wouldn't mind finding -- but I'm not overpaying -- and, well, these two were not on my list (though McGwire would be closer to being on the list vs. Arozarena). I found both of these as freebie throw-ins with a bulk lot of blaster boxes I ripped earlier this year.

GOT FRAMED
The Card:
Nick Swisher 2015 Topps Framed parallel (/20)
The Price:
Too much ... but I needed it
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
There are some Topps flagship parallels that are banes of my existence as a player collector, though, thankfully, I'm not missing too much on the front with my player long gone from appearing on new cardboard. These framed parallels and the Clear (/10) parallels from flagship are both pretty rare, so the few years where he has them are not easy finds at all ... and most likely got pulled, posted and sold long ago. I missed and waited too long.

CHASING INK
The Item:
Stephanie Vaquer autographed and inscribed "Dark Angel" 8-by-10 photo (JSA Witnessed) via High Spots
The Price:
$60 shipped (on sale)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
She's a new arrival in WWE but she's no rookie, having worked around the world since 2009 -- but when it comes to cardboard this Chilean star doesn't have a bunch. Because of that, I checked off some ink first. Panini America snuck her and some other key rookies into rarer spots in some 2024 releases as well as some high-end brands, so she does have some pricey Rookie Cards but she has very little for 2025 from Topps other than Now cards and a small presence in the Cactus Jack Chrome set released around Mania ... so that means higher prices for now. (She was not in standard Chrome or Sapphire.) Her auto often looks like this, but when I picked this off via High Spots beyond the photo quality I chose this one since the scan there showed a full sig ... that I didn't get. I suspect her auto will devolve from even this simpler sig into more of a symbol once she has to sign a lot of stuff for new WWE releases (whenever those arrive). Though, that said, we're at basically one brand and a parallel and a show set halfway through the year. That's another reason I opted for ink now vs. later.

TWO SHADES OF A FAVORITE
The Cards:
Nick Swisher 2013 Panini America's Pastime (/125) & Gold parallel (/25)
The Price:
Less than $5 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This pair of cards are from what is a bit of an oddball favorite for me that came and went quickly as a high-end box -- they were pricey at first, got cheap and have since vanished in unopened form -- but I'm good with singles here in select spots. Why do I like this design? Look closely at his jersey -- that's not penny sleeve glare, that's dirt added to the design of every card's photo. Atop that, I'm 99.999 percent sure (in other words, I'm 100 percent sure) the helmet seen here is one I own and wrote about here.

DO YOU BELIEVE?
The Item:
Joe Hendry autographed 8-by-10 photo (via The Wrestling Universe Store)
The Price:
Free (thrown in -- I think -- since an order was slow shipping)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
I'll be honest, I'm not a believer in this case -- a gimmick where he's one part inspirational, one part motivational and seemingly omnipresent merely by saying name (read some history on it here) -- but the TNA standout has his fans and a following. That got him a last-minute Wrestlemania match this year. I ordered some stuff from this dealer and this was among a couple extra inclusions -- I think because they were worried about it all being a late arrival.

A REBOOT IS COMING ...
The Item:
The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988) press kit with 8-by-10 photos featuring Leslie Nielsen, Priscilla Presley, George Kennedy, O.J. Simpson, Ricardo Montelban and others.
The Price:
$14
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This press kit was one I picked off on the relative cheap months ago because, well, I did like the stupidity of this movie as a kid and because the photo quality was there in both names and condition. (I think this was a throw-in with some others so I could load up all at once and spread them out here, too.) Now, why is this here this time? It looks like this spoof franchise is getting a reboot arriving next month with a loaded cast that includes Liam Neeson, Pam Anderson, Cody Rhodes, Busta Rhymes, Paul Walter Hauser and others -- see the trailer here. It looks absurd ... and better than the original.

WELL, HALF THE ALBUM IS GOOD ...
The Card:
Poison/Pink Floyd 1991 Brockum RockCards -- miscut card
The Price:
Too much ($4) ... but it was too weird to pass up
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This oddity comes from one of only a few U.S. released rock sets of the more modern years of cardboard and it's a big-time botch with one legendary band and a favorite from the past. (I'll let the fans argue over which one is which.) I didn't need this but it was extreme (no, not the band) enough I had to have it. I also wondered what kind of centering grade something like this might get ...

GET IN THE RING
The Card:
Elijah Holyfield 2019 Panini Contenders Optic Holo Prizm Rookie Ticket Autographs
The Price:
$2.25
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
If you're a regular reader, then you know why he's here -- the son of the boxing legend turned Georgia Bulldogs standout turned NFL player is now a WWE recruit who was on (but didn't win) one of its reality shows, WWE LFG. He'll be around at some point, though ... maybe he gets a cameo somewhere during the big week in Atlanta coming up later this month?

A RARE WIN ...
The Card:
Sol Ruca 2025 Topps Now WWE Gold Foil parallel (/50)
The Price:
$8.99 via Topps.com
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
I wasn't working with a bunch of funds in hand when this one and the Tiffy Time highlight shown earlier dropped via Topps Now, but I knew I needed this card at least once as it was a good match and moment for a star down in the lower ranks who will be arriving on bigger stages at some point soon with a unique package of, well, everything. This isn't a Rookie Card scenario (those cards are back in 2023) but her first major title was one we all had to wait for (she should have won it long ago) and that made this moment even cooler. I ordered just one card here along with my Stratton bundle and, well, I still need to find a base card thanks to the Cardboard Gods being on my side and delivering me a parallel. That's a win.

BIG, COLORFUL MATERIAL
The Card:
Mac Jones 2021 Panini Phoenix Rookie Jumbo Memorabilia Purple (/99)
The Price:
$3.75
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Big swatch, small price. A thick-stock card from a brand where there's plenty of color and flash works for me as a Crimson Tide collection filler card. I played the waiting game on Jones stuff and that turned out to be the wise choice for me vs. many who spent big thinking that uni was going to make him the next Tom Brady. He'll always have a spot in my collection, though.

'TIS THE SEASON II
The Cards: Nick Swisher 2015 Panini Prizm USA Baseball Camo Prizm (/199) & Red White & Blue Prizm (/50)
The Price:
About $8 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Remember that helmet I mentioned above for the Swisher card? Well, in the case of this card I own the jersey being worn here. I landed it years ago along with a white one that were both found in a lot when that year's USA Baseball gamers were sold off in bulk lots via Hunt Auctions. He didn't play a boatload of games with the squad, so I suspect there were not any extras here -- so, in this case, I'm confident it's the jersey but don't have any absolute ironclad proof based on photo-matching. Because of all of that, I dig this card ... and it's also one that remains on my mental radar as there was supposed to have been an autographed version for him in the insert set here but it never surfaced. (It was likely never made but I'm never seen a blank or gotten definitive proof ... someday maybe it will present itself. I'd even take blanks without the ink at this point if they were made.)

SAMPLING STARR
The Card:
Bart Starr 1998 Collector's Edge Masters Super Masters Media Sample (stamped on back)
The Price:
$3
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This Hall of Famer's card is for my Crimson Tide stash but it's also a bit of an oddity from the past where card companies used to make specific samples for dealers and others and distribute them in advance of a release -- these days, digital promotion is about all that happens. In this case, the card is stamped "media sample" on the back, which makes it a little more interesting than your typical promo or sample cards. Click that thumbnail for a closer look.

MORE TIFF NOW ...
The Cards:
Tiffany Stratton & Charlotte Flair 2025 Topps Now WWE Wrestlemania Posters (/2,127)
The Price:
Five-pack price via Topps.com
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This match was a bruiser and since it was Stratton's debut at the biggest event of the year I opted for a small lot, aiming for perhaps a parallel ... but nope. I wasn't a big fan of the match posters that were used for these cards but am glad I did the small lot as four of my five had surface spotting that would have been bummers for grading here had I done just one. Will I grade? Maybe at some point in the long run I'll do one. I collect Stratton (as you know if a regular reader here ... it's always Tiffy Time) but I suspect a lot of her stuff will get slabbed by others. I may just pick off one that way if it presents itself and the price is reasonable.

HE'S BACK ... BIG & LITTLE
The Cards:
Ronald Acuña Jr. 2024 Topps Heritage & 2024 Topps Heritage Mini
The Price:
Less than $2 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
You can't really tell here other than from the size of the penny sleeve, but one is the standard card and the other is the mini. Pulling both eluded me  -- oddly from my several rips of the main set and obviously from the mini as I didn't rip a single pack -- so I grabbed singles. Why? I like Heritage cards of big names and I'm lightly pondering a slab run of his H cards. I have slabbed or grabbed a few of them -- at least three years, maybe four -- so these are sitting in a huge "maybe grade" pile.

UNFORTUNATE HEADLINES ...
The Card:
Zoey Stark 2021 Topps Finest WWE -- Extended Roster Short-print
The Price:
Under $4
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This veteran was in the headlines due to a major injury that happened on TV recently -- she blew out everything in one knee and is now telling her story online. It was a pretty-routine move gone wrong and a reminder that anything can happen on live TV. I had this stashed away from last year and I grabbed it since she was getting a big push against some notables at the time and this was a rarer SP card from this set. I'm not sure I ever pulled any of them -- and I opened a lot of packs here -- and I have only grabbed a couple because I just haven't seen them. Unlike a lot of Finest cards from his year, this design and photo work together pretty well.

GO FIGURE!
The Item:
Jalen Hurts NFL GameChangers 6-inch vinyl figure -- Kelly Green Alternate Jersey variant
The Price:
$29.95
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
I still haven't landed an autograph for this former Alabama Crimson Tide QB turned Super Bowl MVP -- that's a short list and he's the only one I don't have -- but I haven't found the perfect combo of card/auto/price I like. While out window-shopping, I happened upon this unique vinyl figure variant in the color of Eagles unis I like ... so I grabbed it. Nope, didn't need it, of course, but it's been a while since I've added any toys to the stash. I used the stock photo here -- the color and glare made this not the easiest thing to photograph in the package -- and you can see the standard figure opened at right.

ONE-OF-A-KIND NUMBER ...
The Card:
Randall Cunningham 2021 Sportkings Vol. 2 Silver Autographs (/25)
The Price:
$21
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This Eagles QB was the first NFL player I ever collected, beginning back in 1989 or 1990 and, well, I don't have a lot of his ink. I picked up a signed mini-helmet a few years later and called it good on that front -- it's still in a storage box somewhere in my collection and it was my first time ever seeing a mini-helmet, too. I have since moved on to collect others but have picked off a few signed cards in the past as well as occasional new old Eagles cards for Cunningham. But this one? Why did I land it? The serial number is the one that matters most.

TWO NEW NO. 1s ...
The Cards:
Bryce Young 2023 Topps Composite 1973 Chrome Lazer Refractor & Blue & Orange Spark Refractor
The Price:
About $6 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This release is fun in its variety of card types but not my thing overall with so many retired players who I didn't want to find in my packs back when they were active. I get the reasons and the strategies for that within some limitations that come with licensing, but I just don't need a lot of stuff in there ... so I've picked off a few singles here and there instead of openin packs. These two parallel textures have popped up elsewhere and the two actually might be my favorites, really, no matter the brand.

YOU KNOW ... ALWAYS SOME BO
The Card:
Bo Bichette 2023 Topps Heritage High Number 1974 Topps Puzzles Boxloader
The Price:
About $8.50
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This is an oversized box-topper you've seen here before as it's one I'll pick off any time I see it as long as the price is right. It's an actual puzzle shrink-wrapped to a cardboard backer and since it's a topper there are inevitably fewer of these made than a lot of cards in this release.

BUTTON IT UP ...
The Card:
Michael Morales 2021 Leaf Trinity Patch Autographs Purple (button) (/25)
The Price:
About $11
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This third-round pick of the Mariners in 2021 is still at it in the minors this season after a solid 13-2 record last summer -- but none of that is why "Moose" is here. If he pans out and ends up in Seattle -- he's among their better prospects and had been pondering playing for Vanderbilt -- that's a bonus. I merely picked this off as it was a nice-looking button card in what is labeled as a patch set. Is that an error or were they mixed in for all players? I have no idea and I'm not dwelling on it ... I just liked a button card for the price.

CHEW ON THIS
The Card:
Rob Nelson 2010 TRISTAR Obak Autographs (/125)
The Price:
About $10
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This set's subjects made this a unique set to rip into with all kinds of surprises and this card is cool if you ask me. No, this isn't the Rob Nelson who had Rookie Cards in 1987 and wasn't friendly with teammate Jose Canseco. This Rob Nelson pitched 14 games over three seasons of low-A ball beginning in 1975. His final stats include a 1-3 record and a 5.95 ERA but none of that matters in terms of baseball history where he made his mark. Nelson, along with former big-leaguer Jim Bouton, created the brand of shredded bubble gum called Big League Chew. How'd it happen? Click here. His only cards are in this set -- a base card he shares with Bouton and all its parallels, this certified auto and a dual auto. With all of the parallels, he's got just over 20 cards in this but nothing else ... despite millions and millions of pouches of bubble gum sold.

BIG & BATTY
The Card:
Nick Swisher 2014 Topps Museum Collection Momentous Material Jumbo Bat Relic (/10)
The Price:
$25
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Only nine others exist and I'm sure I have at least one of those somewhere (maybe more ... organization ain't my thing) but I've always had a thing for (been a sucker for) jumbo memorabilia cards. Tack on more of that thought when it's my player, and he's not had new cards in almost a decade, and that's how we're here. (I'm fine with that lack of new stuff ... it lets me catch up.)

TWO BIG NAMES
The Items:
Girl, Interrupted & The Opposite Of Sex 8-by-10 promo photos featuring Winona Ryder and Christina Ricci
The Price:
About $5 apiece
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Press kit photos were made to promote these movies back in the days before marketing went more online and they were easy grabs as part of a lot when these A-list names are in play. Why? I like names from more recent decades where they may not have a lot of cardboard, so flats like this are among fewer options to collect and could have more interest than people think. (Admittedly both here have cards ... they are just the end of a batch of images I grabbed last year.)

THE BIG WINNER OF MANIA WEEKEND?
The Card:
Bron Breakker 2022 Panini Instant WWE (/588)
The Price:
$3.25
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
If one were to look at Wrestlemania this year and ponder who had the best weekend and had more momentum going forward vs. coming in, well, this guy is likely it. He's the son and a nephew of WWE Hall of Famers (the Steiner Bros.), is a freak of an athlete when it comes to speed and power and now he's part of an A-list group going forward that figures to spin him off even bigger at some point. Breakker came in as one closely watched in 2022 with his RCs coming then and this Instant card was his first. I picked this off awhile back since it was the debut and is pretty rare in the big picture in terms of volume made ... but it's still pretty cheap. I guess the parallels get most of the attention along with the latter cards that are even rarer.

HALL OF FAME TIFFANY
The Cards:
Dave Parker 1989 Bowman Tiffany (announced as approximately 6,000 copies made)
The Price:
About $2.50 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This pair is among a few Parker cards I picked off over on COMC with an eye for something in a slab for this summer with the Hall of Fame inductions coming later this month. But I didn't opt to slab yet figuring I'd need to give these rarer set cards an in-hand look with the high gloss surfaces and the edges/corners not well-protected in the set's simple cardboard box. I opted for delivery and was lucky making that decision as both have pretty substantial corner issues that would have meant rough grading. (I really like this card among his late-career Oakland options but would only want this in a higher mark, even if it's the rarer version.) That means I'll opt to slab something else at some point, though his Hall induction will be a far more somber one than expected after he died this past weekend at age 74 after having battled Parkinson's disease for more than a decade.

SHE'S NEXT ...
The Card:
Kelani Jordan 2024 Panini Three Count WWE Prime Memorabilia Autographs (/99)
The Price:
About $37
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
The NXT ranks have gotten leaner this year with several top names headed to the main TV shows of WWE, but Jordan was on my radar to a degree well before that. Since I like this set and think it would have been perfect (and still is close) had it not had sticker autos, this arrived in my collection recently. Her Rookie Cards are in 2024 sets and this one is among my favorites, so it was an easy pick-up. Ruca, Jordan and a few others should become main players for NXT soon if not considered there now already and there could be interesting developments going forward for them in the developmental ranks. (I think it's a big drop-off to the next batch of names.)

NETWORK INK
The Card:
Lauren Shehadi autographed & inscribed 2017 Topps MLB Network insert card (BAS authenticated)
The Price:
Probably too much ...
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This was more of an "add a slabbed autograph" addition as it's an in-person/TTM signed copy of her first card that's been authenticated and slabbed to present a little better than a toploaded card. Her certified autograph parallel of this is obscenely rare -- they only signed 10 copies -- and I actually do have one somewhere (boxed away in the collection years ago) but I only recently found a regular version clean enough to grade. The corners can come out of packs in rough shape with that black border and stock as skinny as it gets -- and these were only found one per box -- so this card has been on my radar in any form. Why? First card and she doesn't have many, unlike many others at the Network and in the set who played. The corners on this one are rougher than I thought vs. the scan but the cost was better than a lot of the signed copies out there in the world right now. She apparently signed them TTM for a time, though even unsigned copies here can sell for a little more than one might expect almost a decade after release. (Maybe there are copies out there sitting among those who ripped a lot of boxes chasing Aaron Judge Rookie Cards, and not looking at anything else?)

A RARER SHADE
The Card:
Bayley 2020 Topps WWE Women's Division Superstar Mat Relics Gold (/10)
The Price:
$12
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This card was more of a rescue -- one that rare at a price this low is a gimme. Atop that, Bayley is a lock as a Hall of Famer right now and this design is pretty strong in how it showcases a larger piece of a mat Relic from the 2020 Royal Rumble. Like other cards this month, I didn't need it but I don't mind it at all.
