Landing free autographs can be easy ... if you buy the book

Legendary actor Tom Hanks, $19.77. Wrestling icon Ric Flair and his WWE star daughter Charlotte, $19.98.
Those are the prices this collector paid for the latest additions to his autograph collection thanks to the signed books section at one major book chain's website -- a new reminder that one of the easiest ways to land autographs from some big names is to watch the new arrival lists.
It's a little oldschool -- you don't have to pay for the autograph just the book?!? -- and a little risky as you have to buy from the right places using some strategy, but it's one way that many collectors have landed ink without forking over big bucks or ripping packs to chase a particular name. (Some names, like Hanks for example, don't even have card appearances.)

Could Jada Toys' Nano Metalfigs be a super-cheap collectible hit?

Simplicity, portability, affordability and the chase.
This collector found himself in the toy aisle of a chain store this week and noticed something relatively new that hadn't caught my attention before. At a glance I was interested and instantly found myself scouring the pegs for something that ended up not being there.
It was a section of Jada Toys' new Nano Metalfigs that are available for a few different realms -- DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Disney/Pixar, Street Fighter, Harry Potter -- and they're tiny metal sculptures that come in packages just like the big kids' toys but they don't come with a big price.
They've probably been around for some collectible genres I don't watch all that closely, but the first wave of the new WWE figures caught my eye simply because they were so small ... and so cheap.
Oh what a day! 'Mad Max: Fury Road' toys coming from Funko

Bo Derek & Joe Namath in an NBA box? Yep, thanks to Panini Rewards ...

A funny thing happened recently when I ripped into a box of 2016-17 Panini Studio basketball cards.
I pulled cards of Joe Namath and Bo Derek. No, really. My Derek was an autograph and my Namath was a patch card from a Los Angeles Rams jersey -- cards that I'd always eyed here and there but didn't expect to be able to land from a box of NBA cards.
How'd it happen? I pulled them via Panini Rewards points.
