Need a collecting challenge? 2014 Topps Turkey Red football has some
What happens when you have a retail-only, hit-per-pack product that can be condition sensitive with a likely modest print run and sometimes-rocky collation? A super collecting challenge -- and a product that is available now at an outrageous price as part of Blowout Cards' Super Bowl 50 sale coinciding with the big game. How outrageous? Keep reading ...
The 2014 Topps Turkey Red football set presents a collecting challenge with some surprisingly expensive cards -- even for rookies who may not have lived up to expectations. Need an example of how expensive? Click here. Yep, that much ... even for Johnny Manziel. And one expensive card that's unsigned? Click here. There aren't that many $100 cards popping out of retail packs regularly, but these two cards are not alone in Turkey Red. In fact that second sale above might be underselling the card based on scarcity. Overall, it seems autograph asking prices are healthy, too.
New Mariner Dae Ho Lee already has Topps cards for fans to consider
The latest member of the Seattle Mariners comes from Korea by way of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan last season after signing a minor-league deal with the MLB team. His name is Dae Ho Lee and he's a former member of Korea's World Baseball Classic squad and a guy who hit 31 home runs last season for the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks. He probably won't be fighting for a starting spot, but the Mariners are a team with a rich history of international stars that fans have watched closely in the past.
“Dae-Ho gives us another potential right-handed power bat in the first base competition,” general manager Jerry Dipoto said in a prepared statement. “He has performed at a very high level of production in both Korea and Japan and we are excited to see how that translates to our team.”
How might he translate onto cardboard? We've already got cards to watch and see -- no matter what happens in spring training.

Add Mo'ne Davis & Kristaps Porzingis to the 2016 Topps First Pitch roster + gallery/checklist
Contest >> Click here to win a box of 2016 Topps Series 1A few more First Pitch cards from 2016 Topps Series 1 have begun to trickle out onto eBay in advance of the product's official release on Wednesday and there's another surprise among the celebs doing the ceremonial honors.
One of them is former Little League World Series star and 14-year-old Mo'ne Davis.
Davis became first girl to earn a win and to pitch a shutout in Little League World Series history during the 2014 event capturing the hearts of many. She appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated and became a household name.
Who else is among the surprises in the set?
UFC star Ronda Rousey leads long list of athletes in SI Swimsuit Issue -- and many can be found on cards
It's February and that means that we're set for the Super Bowl and some mass-marketing from SI.com over the annual Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. And in reality the hype for both already has begun.
The last time we saw Ronda Rousey, she was suffering the first loss of her UFC career. Up next she'll be in the annual issue for the second year in a row. More publicity won't hurt her already-in-high-demand cardboard. She's one of a long list of athletes to appear in the issue and part of an even longer list of models who appear on cards and have certified autographs and even memorabilia cards for collectors to chase. For the traditional models, there actually were SI Swimsuit card sets released each year from 2003 to 2009 from Stellar Collectibles and then a later retrospective set. In those sets, we got autographs, memorabilia cards and even paint cards from photoshoots. Meanwhile, for many of the athletes who have appeared in the issue since, there are autograph appearances in sets like Topps' Allen & Ginter (and many other sets) where collectors can also sometimes find the models. Kate Upton and Chrissy Teigen have been found there for example, and they sell very well.
Here's a rundown of a few sports stars who we've seen in the issue.
PGA star Jordan Spieth among the 2016 Topps' First Pitch celebrities
The first retail pulls from 2016 Topps have begun to hit eBay in advance of its widespread release on Wednesday and that means we get out first glimpses at the surprise inclusions in the First Pitch set.A checklist has not been released for the insert set, but it appears that this year's version will include golfer Jordan Spieth who has not had any official PGA cardboard despite dominating successes this past year.
#BuzzWorthyPulls Week 3 -- Show us your favorite Topps baseball pull
Our weekly Blowout #BuzzWorthyPulls Contest is back. Every single Saturday we'll launch a new post where all you have to do is show off your biggest, newest card via a photo posted on Twitter and here on BlowoutBuzz.com.
Your prize if you're the winner? A $25 BlowoutCards.com gift certificate. This week's contest & instructions (read closely): Show your best Topps baseball pull. Maybe it's in your box of 2016 Topps Series 1 to rip later this week -- or maybe it's something from an old box. Show us your top Topps card pulled lately.
Step 1 -- Take your photo. This must either be a selfie with the card or an image of the card with paper that has #buzzworthypulls hand-written on it. Be sure to show the card clearly. No exceptions.
Step 2 -- Tweet us and tag it. Tweet your pic to @blowoutbuzz and @blowoutcards and you must include the #BuzzWorthyPulls tag. You don't have to say anything else but if you need to add a detail ("Card is a 1/5.") you can.
Step 3 -- Copy-and-paste that tweet into a comment posted on this thread. (This helps us keep track of things.) We'll only consider one entry per person per week -- so make it count. If you don't copy your tweet here, you can't win. Simple as that.
What's next? Be Patient and wait for the following Saturday ... we'll announce a winner either in the early morning or in the evening (depends on Buzz's schedule). The winner will be notified on Twitter and noted in the comments for that week. The comments will then be closed. At the same time, we'll post the next contest and you can enter there.
Are you ready to win? You know what to do ... show us your #BuzzWorthyPulls.

Do you know someone who would want a Carolina Panthers ball card?

It's a simple idea, but Buzz thought it should come to life.
With all of the game-used touchdown balls from the Carolina Panthers heading into the stands to young fans this season, wouldn't there also be a football fan or two out there interested in a game-used ball card like this one? (I mean, look at the kid in the Auburn hat. You know he'd want one right about now.)
Buzz grabbed an old (admittedly low-res) Prestige card image of the likely NFL MVP Cam Newton from eBay and meshed it with a new photo to create this what-if card and simply present the following question.
[polldaddy poll=9290315]
--
It's a simple idea -- and really something that's already pretty commonly done just without the power of a timely and topical photograph. Something tells Buzz that a card like this would be popular right now -- maybe even moreso in a couple of weeks if (or is it when?) the Panthers win Super Bowl 50. Or, perhaps there could be a set even more specifically branded to footballs for Panthers fans with a photo of Newton handing the ball toward the camera lens? Maybe a card in a commemorative Super Bowl championship set -- or the key item in a kid-focused release.
Just an idea. This kid knows he'd want one.

New spring training unis will make memorabilia cards more exciting
Your Relics may have just gotten a little more interesting. On Thursday, MLB revealed the new looks for all 30 teams in spring training this year and there are new touches to be found on jerseys and caps beyond the obvious new colors and logos.
For starters, all names and numbers now have a spring-themed sublimated texture as part of the material which will allow collectors to, in some cases, see when the material in their cards was used. The year, along with other spring designators, is part of the design.

If this was your only way to own the iconic 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle baseball card, would you buy it?
Buzz did something today that he hadn't done often in years of collecting -- out of curiosity, he searched "1952 Topps Mickey Mantle" on eBay.Surprisingly (though maybe not given auction prices these days) there were nearly 20 graded copies of the iconic card to be had. On the high-end was a PSA 8 OC copy of the card with a hefty price tag and a PSA 7 copy as well. Not bad price-wise, there.
Buzz flipped over to completed auctions out of curiosity and found nearly 30 more completed sales for slabbed copies of the card before finding the gem you see above.

Abe Vigoda had very few roles when it came to trading cards
Actor Abe Vigoda had many roles in his acting career, but for people of a certain age his roles in Barney Miller and The Godfather might come to mind first.Sal Tassio and Detective Fish were the most-memorable for the veteran actor during a career that spanned from the 1940s into the 2000s -- nearly 100 credits. He died on Tuesday at age 94.
His roles on cardboard? They were much more limited.

eBay Buzz: Topps Star Wars Force Awakens Mystery Autograph Redemption tops $2,000 mark

The last time we had checked in on the Mystery Redemption from 2015 Topps Star Wars: The Force Awakens Series 1 it had sold for big bucks on eBay -- going for $1,700.
(Spoiler alert: It was initially revealed to be for an autograph of Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey, though Topps Marketing Communications Manager Susan Lulgjuraj said there is not yet a confirmed subject for the card.)
But now an actual sale has gone even higher.
Earlier this month, a copy of the redemption topped the $2,000 mark, selling for $2,050 via a Best Offer in this auction. That has helped inflate asking prices for the card in active auctions as cards continue to be tucked away into personal collections.
