Piece of The Game opens New York card shop

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. — Piece of The Game Sports Cards and Collectibles, a one-of-a-kind sports cards and collectibles store, opens its flagship location today.
Moving operations from an online platform, which serves some of the largest sports collectibles markets in the U.S., has been a goal of owner David Prince for the last two years. Their first location -- off bustling U.S. Route 9 in Wappingers Falls -- is the prototype for future stores already slated to open in Westchester County, N.Y., and Mahwah, N.J., over the next year. The goal is to "have a truly unique and immersive experience for avid sports cards and collectible patrons." There is a ribbon-cutting ceremony today at 4 p.m. with a public opening tomorrow at 11 a.m.
"As a card collector since I was a child, I wanted to create a space that allows the cards to be displayed as they should be," Prince said. "Cards are now considered alternative assets, similar to fine art, and my store displays cards and collectibles as such."

Fast Five: Bargain boxes Buzz would be ripping right now

Fast Five is a quick list under a simple topic that might offer a basic starting point for a themed collection. It's a basic list of five items that could be fun for a starting collector or a new way to add to a stash that might already seemingly include everything when it comes to cardboard. For some of you, it's probably common sense. For others of you out there, it's something to think about.
This time? Five boxes Buzz would be ripping right now ... all from the bargain section.
BACK TO SCHOOL ... RIGHT NOW
2021 Onyx Vintage Collection College Football box
These aren't actually out yet -- it's merely in pre-order mode for a November release -- but this one is Onyx's take on the new NCAA NIL rules that allow current athletes to make money on their name, image and likeness right now rather than when they are done with their college days. College football and college basketball figure to be the biggest deals on this front and this one includes a pair of autos in a box along with two other cards. Bryce Young's start has the word "Heisman" attached already and the other certified autos of his all have had pro-type dollar signs attached, not mere college award-winner prices. These boxes figure to be a bit hit and miss -- the big names will pay for a few boxes, others probably won't -- but at their present price I think they are worth the risk moreso than a lot of other releases out there. College NIL autos will have a longer shelf life than your typical draft picks cards as the booster crowd will be interested as well as the school fans -- and they won't have NFL cardboard to trump them until further down the line. I'm sure more stuff is coming but the other other one of these releases on the tarmac is a multi-sport approach. This one is solely football so that gives it the edge for me. Once Panini America's fully licensed NIL stuff starts, those will be the first-look but these are not far off.Keep reading for four more making up the list this time.

Buzz Buys: Hall of Famer Relics, Coming to America, Star Wars, Mike Trout's selfie, old NFL, American Pickers, WWE & more

Buzz buys and busts a lot of boxes right here for Buzz Breaks, but one of my goals is to rip a little less and talk more about cardboard that I -- and you -- might like. One way to do that? Simple show and tell -- present a few pick-ups and say why they captured my attention.
So, with all that said, here are a few Buzz Buys ...

TAKE A SEAT ...
The Card: Babe Ruth 2017 Leaf Babe Ruth Immortal Collection Yankee Stadium Seat Red Spectrum (/20)
The Price: About $14
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Yes, I know this is not a bat card -- that's a piece of a Yankee Stadium seat embedded into it -- but I picked this one up since it's on the rarer side of things and also on the affordable side. Beyond that, this also showcases one of a few Ruth photos that always get me to stop and look at a card when I come across it. It's as simple as that, though I do also like oddball memorabilia cards. Chasing Ruth bats will cost more, though Leaf's estate-authorized sets have made them a little more affordable in recent years thanks to a good number of low-volume cards made among a few products.

Black November Wave 3 is here … and here are five I'd grab

If you hadn't noticed, there are a number of boxes with discounted prices right now right here as Blowout Cards' Black November sales are going strong with Wave 3 recently dropping.
Many of the discounts are dramatic enough that Buzz once again had to sit down and ponder the possibilities in many of the boxes and cases -- and here are five boxes/cases that caught this collector’s eye ... and there's far more that just might suit your tastes in the big sale.

MORE THAN JUST MOOKIE ...
2014 Topps Heritage High Number MLB sets and cases
There was a time when these sets were super-affordable and pretty cheap considering they are loaded with Rookie Cards and include an autograph in every box, too. Then Mookie Betts blew up and so did these as people wanted one of his better RCs and a shot at his ink -- he's in there -- but he's also not alone. Here are some of the RCs that have had their ups and downs but are still in here every time -- Masahiro Tanaka, James Paxton, Randal Grichuk, Billy Hamilton, Joe Panik, Jacob deGrom, George Springer, Xander Bogaerts, Kyle Hendricks (his only RC), Yordano Ventura, Kolten Wong, Jose Ramirez, Betts and reigning American League MVP Jose Abreu. It's a pretty strong lineup on one of the best Topps vintage designs, 1965 Topps, if you ask me. Autographs can be found with red ink (/10) atop the normal ones. and that lineup does include Abreu, deGrom, Betts, Springer, Ramirez, Nick Castellanos, Oscar Tavaras, Taijuan Walker, Ventura and a number of other players.Keep reading for a few more boxes you should consider (and are likely to end up in Buzz's cart).
