Leaf Trading Cards will have three promotional sets up for grabs at this year's National Sports Collectors Convention in Chicago as well as a promo card set for VIP attendees.

First up will be a 1992 Leaf Metal set that will be in packs. To receive a pack at the company's booth, one must open a box of 2019 Leaf In The Game-used Sports or 2019 Leaf Pop Century. These cards will be paralleled with a few colors and include the likes of Ken Griffey Jr., Kyler Murray, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Mike Tyson, Barry Sanders, Hulk Hogan, Stephen Curry, Ichiro Suzuki, Lionel Messi, Daisy Ridley, Harrison Ford, Larry Bird, Conor McGregor and plenty more.

Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This brand is loaded with impressive cardboard and some crazy patches but this one comes with a little extra included -- as you can see that's a PSA/DNA authentication sticker for the jersey where this patch came from. That notes that this jersey was signed with a game-used 2011 inscription -- something you'll know from just this swatch but not any of the other 24 that exist. A simple and fun item. The New York Jets haven't had a lot of luck with quarterbacks in the recent past, but their newest signal-caller will already be in the record book when he sets foot on the field Monday night in Detroit.

At 21 years (and 97 days) old, Sam Darnold will be the youngest starting quarterback in the NFL since the 1970 AFL merger.

That should add a little more attention to the Rookie Cards of the No. 3 overall pick in this year's draft -- at least until the NFL realities kick in. If he does well? Well, then, look out -- because his already pricey cardboard found in 2018 football boxes will get even steeper for rarer cards and autographs.

If you saw this coming, you need to be coaching The Big Game next year -- and every year after that.

Alabama freshman QB Tua Tagovailoa took over behind center for the Crimson Tide down 13-0 at halftime and delivered a game-winning 41-yard TD pass to DeVonta Smith in overtime to seal a 26-23 victory.

And that makes his U.S. Army All-American Bowl cards from Leaf Trading Cards the hottest cardboard on the planet for the moment -- and there's a decent amount of options to go around, too.

The college football world got a pair of classic showdowns on Monday night and will get a third next week when the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs face off for the College Football Playoff National Championship.

There were some dominating performances for these two squads in the Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl and the good news for collectors who might not know is that a number of those stars now set to chase gridiron history already appear on fully licensed football cards thanks to card companies' deals with prep spotlight games such as the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and the Under Armour All-America Game.

In the case of the Bulldogs and their game-winning star Sony Michel -- as well as his fellow bruiser RB Nick Chubb and QB Jake Fromm -- they can all be found on Army cards from Leaf Trading Cards. Michel's first of more than 40 cards was made back in 2011 and nearly all of the are autographed. Chubb has around 30 cards from 2014 and beyond, while Fromm has more than both of them with nearly 50 signed. His are all from this year's set -- and this trio is likely not alone for Bulldog cameos as there have been plenty of cards made for the event in past years (some wax is still findable -- there's even a Vault release on the way).

The Crimson Tide guys? There's a lot more mystery there ...

Admit it, you may have overdone things when it comes to buying football cards this year -- maybe past years, too -- and have a big ol' stash of cards you don't know what to do with. What do you keep? What do you jettison? That's where having a collecting focus comes in. If you haven't overdone it on wax, then maybe having a focus for your single-card buys is a need. (That's one even Buzz has struggled with over decades of collecting.)

One potential niche that seems prevalent this year in NFL and college sets? Cards showing the kids of former NFL players who have now made their way onto cardboard.

They seem to be everywhere this year. Second-generation players aren't anything new, of course, but they can be a fun way to revisit the past while also collecting the present. Buzz started his collecting days in the 1980s and, back then, a Joe Montana autograph wasn't an easy find -- plus, his handwriting didn't justify the high cost on a small budget. Fast-forward to 2015 and Nick Montana has cardboard. He won't be an NFL star -- he wasn't really even that good in college -- and the handwriting also isn't great, but he's got a certified autograph card.

Buzz wanted it, Buzz got it. Can't say the same thing for a Joe autograph, though, even all these years later.

Stanford's Christian McCaffrey picked up The Associated Press College Football Player of the Year nod on Tuesday, becoming the first non-Heisman Trophy winner since 2009 to win the award.

But if you want his first football cards? Well, you'll have to do some digging -- because six years ago was the same year he made his debut on cardboard.

Two of the top Heisman Trophy candidates this year already have cardboard and certified autographs thanks to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl sets from Leaf Trading Cards.

Alabama junior Derrick Henry set the Crimson Tide's single-season rushing record in a dominating 271-yard, 46-carry day against the rival Auburn Tigers on Saturday. Ohio State's Ezekiel Elliott also put up a dominating 214-yard day with a pair of touchdowns in a rout of the rival Michigan Wolverines.

When the No. 2 LSU Tigers took on the fourth-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday night, it was supposed to be a showcase game for the Tigers' Heisman Trophy candidate Leonard Fournette, who has been a dominating presence this season with more than 1,300 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.

What it turned into after a convincing 30-16 Crimson Tide victory over the previously unbeaten Tigers was, potentially, the national arrival of Alabama RB Derrick Henry.
