Update: The card sold for $465,000.
--
The greatest copy of The Great One's greatest card will be sold later this summer.
It's the only PSA 10 copy of Wayne Gretzky's 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee Rookie Card, and it will be on the block for the first time in five years as part of the Goldin Auctions sale during the National Sports Collectors Convention in Atlantic City, N.J., on Aug. 4.
"The fact that just one card has achieved this perfect grading is remarkable," said Ken Goldin, the founder of the auction house. "With the recent surge in interest among serious collectors for high-grade examples of Rookie Cards, we expect this Gretzky card to establish a new benchmark. The average sales for a PSA 9 Gretzky's has increased 600 percent in the past five years. If this card were to see a similar increase, it might become hockey's first $500,000 trading card."

Fischer, who was the physician for the gold-winning squad, which is packed with legends.
"It's arguably the most significant offering of Dream Team game-used gear ever to surface in the collectible marketplace," said Chris Ivy, director of Sports Auctions at Heritage. "This is a rare opportunity to acquire such significant material from the Dream Team," he said. "Like the team itself, there will never be another auction like this again."

Documents with origins of baseball's rules to hit auction via SCP in April

Update: The documents sold for $3.26 million.
Dr. James Naismith's "Rules of Basketball" from 1891 sold for $4.3 million, while the "Rules of Soccer" from 1859 sold for $1.4 million.
What might previously unknown 1857 baseball documents fetch?
That's what we'll find out soon via SCP Auctions as a set of “Laws of Base Ball” documents from 1857 -- documents that pre-date Alexander Cartwright's contributions to the game -- will hit the market in April.
The author here is Daniel Lucius “Doc” Adams, who was the President of the New York Knickerbockers, and the documents' origin has been researched by John Thorn, who has been the official MLB historian since 2011. The documents note guidelines such as the length of base paths, number of players on the field, a nine-inning game and more.
“When Doc Adams set to work in late 1856, none of these aspects of the game were settled,” Thorn said. “This was some seven years after Cartwright had left New York for Hawaii, never to return. For his role in making baseball the success it is, Doc Adams may now be counted as first among the Founding Fathers of Baseball.
“No earlier baseball manuscript of this significance has ever come onto the open market,” Thorn said. “In 1857, baseball made its great leap forward, and these are the documents that reveal what it was like to be present at the creation.”

Auction Gallery: Game-used baseball bats from Goldin Auctions

Game-used baseball bats are often some of the most-abused and most-personalized pieces of game-used memorabilia to hit the market.

Well, that bat opened at $2,000 and sits at $7,000 after 17 bids with plenty of time remaining ... so not every bat can be a bargain.
