Buzz buys and busts a lot of boxes right here for Buzz Breaks, but one of my goals is to rip a little less and talk more about cardboard that I -- and you -- might like. One way to do that? Simple show and tell -- present a few pick-ups and say why they captured my attention.

END OF AN ERA
The Item: Sasha Banks autographed 11-by-14 photo (BAS Witnessed)
The Price: $60
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: She's back in the ring but not in WWE -- and she's known as Mercedes Moné now -- and those are reasons why it looks like an industry mega-dealer that did a witnessed signing is moving these at a bit lower than they might normally be over on WWE Shop. (Since she's not with WWE, they can't be sold there now.) I have her auto on a number of cards and she's typically a pricier sig, but I couldn't pass on this striking kind of photo with its size and big, bold sig. I suspect she'll be back at some point and she'll still be high-profile elsewhere, though, and all that starts later this month with her first match in New Japan Pro Wrestling. If her other past ink dips more, I'll be looking.

Star Wars takes Topps #TBT cards intergalactic for a new year

There's been a disturbance in the Throwback Thursday Force ...
Topps #TBT will have a new set this year -- starting today -- and it's a release that will continue month-long looks at the past via new cardboard and its solely going to be dedicated to Star Wars. It's the 2023 Throwback Thursday Star Wars Edition Set.
There also will be photo variations and parallels each week.
Making the Grade (Feb.): Ricky 'Wild Thing' Vaughn, Sasha Banks, Allen Iverson, NASCAR greats, lucha legends and more

Like many collectors, Buzz is a fan of grading and knows that there are many reasons that collectors choose to slab cards. Sometimes it's to enhance the appeal and protect them when selling. Other times it's to protect an investment for the long-term or to protect for sentimental reasons. Or, it might be just for fun or curiosity about a potential grade.
Here's this month's grading diary here on The Buzz ...
WILD THING!
The Card: Ricky Vaughn (Charlie Sheen) 2014 Topps Archives Major League
The Reason Graded: As you can tell by the green label, this one is an older submission of mine ... but since spring training will be upon us soon I figured I'd lead off with an oddball classic and a card that has been pretty pricey in recent years despite being from a set where they showed up one per blaster box (if I remember correctly). The challenge here? Now even finding blasters is not easy ... they got ripped. Why? There weren't just basic inserts for some of the stars of Major League who got carded ... they signed, too. (Roughly one auto per hobby case.)
The Grade: CSG 9.5 (now 10)Grade 5.5 6 6.5 7 7.5 8 8.5 9 9.5 10 P10 Total Population 0 0 0 0 1 1 0 1 0 1 0 4 Reality Check: This one was clean so I knew I wanted to slab it -- the backs here have black borders that can be an issue -- and as it turns out this is the only 10 of a small bunch graded. That's a win for me.

LEADING OFF WITH A BARGAIN ...
The Item: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. autographed 2019 MLB All-Star Home Run Derby 8-by-1o photo (Topps Authentics)
The Price: Around $80 (regularly $130)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This autograph is one I've never bothered with on cardboard mostly for how it typically looks (it's not the greatest sig) but also because the stock-pilers have stayed busy grabbing them up as he's one of MLB's better young hitters today and he's not cheap. I landed this with a sale combined with some discount certificates on one of the sites that Fanatics populates and went here since that price was strong and the image isn't bad -- it's from his dominating Derby showing where he didn't win but wowed many. This was cheaper than most if not all autos from where I typically buy most often ... and those were sticker autos. I'll probably go this route for ink of notables (or singles in some instances) vs. ripping to chase 'em with pack prices these days. Pro tip: Just because a box is old doesn't mean the autographs just vanish ... hunt him from 2016 prospect stuff forward and Rookie Cards/ink in 2019 forward.

A STRATUSFACTORY ADDITION
The Card: Trish Stratus 2014 Topps WWE Road to WrestleMania Trish Stratus Pants Relic
The Price: Less than a typical low-end hobby box
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This WWE Hall of Famer got her own tribute set in this Topps release and part of the project also included a small batch of jumbo memorabilia cards that, unlike most Topps WWE stuff, wasn't loaded with pieces of shirts or mat pieces. Instead, these jumbos were massive swatches of some match-worn pants from the multi-time champ and they're also seen on the cards themselves in at least one instance. (This one.) These weren't impossible pulls back then -- I just never found one and they were pricey for Relics -- but I latched onto one when it surfaced to have it in my stash almost a decade later. With so many new boxes being pricey or less enticing at times because of that in all sports, I've found myself being more selective and playing the waiting game on some ... and buying up selected singles perhaps for more than I typically do. Though at the same time, the markets are starting to feel a little more normal here and there. This is an example of that.

ALREADY A STAR ...
The Item: Jahmyr Gibbs autographed 16-by-20 photo (Fanatics Authentic)
The Price: Under $40
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This guy has a number of autographed cards already thanks to NIL deals, but to me they're often on the wrong team as he transferred to the Alabama Crimson Tide just this season after two years at Georgia Tech. Atop that, his autograph isn't the flashiest thing out there so that's one reason sticker autos might not appeal ... but when I saw this signed photo for the size and price? Well, I bit -- and it's a really good photo for college merch. He's rushed for 850 yards and seven TDs so far this year and added 42 catches for 378 yards and three more TDs on a team where, well, at times he's been the beast on the ground this year. His next stop? Likely the NFL -- he's popped up as a late first-round or early second-round guy in some quick searches -- though I'm not buying to scout. I just wanted his ink in my stash and this one will go alongside a few other larger-format college photos I've stacked up in the last few years. Depending on where he goes, autographed Rookie Cards should easily top this price. It also helped that I had some sales discount rewards in play, so I paid less than the $40 it had been going for. For me, this one was a win ... and, again, I really like this photo.

CHASING AARON JUDGE INK ...
2014 Bowman Inception MLB
First, I'll mention with my picks here that I do my shopping mostly on the traditional low-end to the mid-range stuff in the not-so-distant past -- so a box like this might be closer to my high-end of things when it comes to risk factor ... but a rough box here will still give you nothing but autographs. The biggest names her? Aaron Judge, Byron Buxton, Julio Urias, Kris Bryant, Xander Bogearts, Carlos Correa, Noah Syndergaard, Jose Abreu, Nick Castellanos, George Springer and many others who are still around the bigs (and some who are definitely not). There are a lot of parallels in play here, too, with some other stuff like printing plates, dual-auto cards, patch autos and even booklets. But if you land Aaron Judge he pays for the box ... and maybe more if it's a rarer version. Every box includes five cards -- five shots at him and other names here ... and they weren't short-printed signers back then, either.Keep reading for a few more boxes you should consider (and are likely to end up in Buzz's cart).

NOW'S THE TIME ...
2022 Panini Prizm WWE wrestling cards hobby boxes
This one is an important release for wrestling card collectors since it was the first Panini America WWE set and it's one that is absolutely loaded with actual Rookie Cards for a bunch of new NXT 2.0 and NXT UK stars who didn't have any previous cardboard at all as well as most of the biggest names of the past and present -- all in one spot, all on one checklist and all with rainbows of parallels. Throw in autographs and a boatload of color and inserts and there's big potential here. The Prizm investor crowd here certainly pumped these up big-time as there is big potential here the rarest stuff ... but the box prices have dropped heavily since release. Why? There's supply for everything available here -- for now -- and that volume of singles, parallels (a deep rainbow on every card and plenty of retail and hobby boxes, too) couldn't keep up with the volume of buyers if you take away the flippers. It remains the same solid release that it was when the boxes were three times the price ... but now it's a more reasonable rip. If you land big stuff you're probably still OK -- maybe more ahead vs. the past -- but if you're a collector this might be closer to the price point where it's more do-able.Keep reading for a few more boxes you should consider (and are likely to end up in Buzz's cart).

A NEW CLASSIC ...
The Cards: Roger Maris 2022 Topps Living Set five-pack (/5,722)
The Price: Bundle price via Topps
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Maris' name was in the headlines quite a bit with Aaron Judge's run toward his American League record 61 home runs -- also the New York Yankees' franchise record -- and Topps responded with a new Living Set card for this legend. The Jared Kelley piece includes some Easter eggs with the obvious one being a "61" on his bat and when I saw it I knew it was an instant buy. I grabbed a five pack with an eye on grading at least one, maybe two copies. (One is on its way to CSG as I type this and depending on how that goes a second might go there, too.) I haven't bought too many Living Set cards this year with lighter stock and centering issues straight from Topps happening too often even in my limited experience, but I think my one I sent in here should do well.

BIG POTENTIAL ... BUT PLENTY OF BASICS
2021 Panini Diamond Kings baseball cards
I know that "art sets" aren't always a big part of some collectors' tastes, but when certain boxes are cheap they are worth the look as they can either cough up good ink for a good price to keep (more than flip) or one can chase the bigs a little more easily. This hobby box -- and two case sizes -- are in the new wave and that gets it the nod from me at the price. These have a strong mix of past all-time greats and then new players with autos, memorabilia and more possible. That means your memorabilia card here could potentially be a Babe Ruth just as much as it could be an Aaron Judge, Ken Griffey Jr. or Alec Bohm. (They're all in there. Sandy Koufax, too.) The autographs have some bigs in cut form as well as standard cards here, though ink does realistically skew young most often. Koufax, Nolan Ryan, Bud Selig, Bob Gibson, Griffey Jr., Willie McCovey, Judge, Mike Piazza, Rickey Henderson, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ... there's a lot of ink from all eras of recent players here. If those don't grab you, keep in mind there are Downtown inserts here that, in graded form (check eBay) go for $300 and up and rare Blank Slate cards are also pricey in that direction, too. And they can often out-pace the ink. There's one auto and one memorabilia card here every time and these are loaded with inserts and parallels, too, to help out. I've pondered grading some of the Hall of Famers' base cards here, too, as many of them use iconic images. For the price, at worst, this a break loaded with names collectors will like. I am one, so this one is on my radar.Keep reading for a few more boxes you should consider (and are likely to end up in Buzz's cart).

GOOD AS GOLD ...
The Card: "Stone Cold" Steve Austin 2022 Panini Select WWE Gold Flash (/10)
The Reason Graded: If you recognize this card, well, there's a reason. Just a few weeks ago, I pulled it from a blaster box and thanks to CSG's quick, budget-minded services I turned this around fast and, well, this rarity pays for itself. This retail-only card is rare -- only nine others like it exist -- and it came back with a top mark since even the horizontal centering was clean. (That's not the norm from what I have seen with this release.) This is a pricey card right now so that was my main reason for slabbing, and now it's that much better.
The Grade: CSG 10Grade 5.5 6 6.5 7 7.5 8 8.5 9 9.5 10 P10 Total Population 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 1 Reality Check: It's the only one that has been slabbed so far. How many might still be sitting in packs? Generally speaking, Select is a strong release worth your look in any format -- and I have other stuff here I intend to get graded.
