Major League Baseball
Ticket Stud or Ticket Dud? You decide ... here's Chapter 47
With these Ticket Stud or Ticket Dud stories I'm turning just a tiny bit of that energy just a few degrees away from cards (we'll still have plenty of them here) for a different kind of cardboard. What am I doing? Simple ... this is an occasional dip into some random ticket lots -- a show and tell showing something small with a story.
This time? This week's MLB All-Star Game hero in another exhibition game from years ago.
Keep reading to see the details this time ... and tell me if you think it's a Ticket Stud or a Ticket Dud.
Collecting Game-used: A Paul Skenes-related MLB beanball
It's BBWAA Awards Week for Major League Baseball and one of the most-notable winners made his way into my game-used collection this year ... well, sort of.
This month's ball in the Collecting Game-used series is another that came to me via a blind grab bag where all I knew was the date of the game ... but this time that wasn't to my advantage as, well, the baseballs pitched by the now-reigning National League Rookie Of The Year, Paul Skenes, command a 15x premium price over the rest of baseballs from this day and this game. Despite that, I rolled the dice, hoping for a possible inventory error or something interesting from what was still a Skenes start ... and I got just that.
Keep reading to see the details this time ... and the ball in action.
MLB extends Topps' exclusive card license through 2025
Major League Baseball is sticking with Topps. The exclusive license for MLB baseball cards has been extended through 2025 as part of a deal revealed publicly by the company and MLB on Thursday.
“Baseball and trading cards go hand-in-hand, eliciting memories of the legends of our game and showcasing the stars of today and tomorrow,” said Noah Garden, MLB Executive VP of Commerce. “Topps vibrantly remains a part of the baseball lexicon that conjures images so many of us have cherished. They have re-invigorated the trading card business with innovative products such as Topps Now, which offers our fans the opportunity to memorialize great moments throughout the season. It’s with great pleasure that we continue this long-term partnership.”
Stoneman Douglas cap tribute gets Topps Now card (updated)
Major League Baseball will have its players wear Stoneman Douglas caps today to help raise funds for victims of last week's school shooting in Florida.
The caps will be worn, signed and auctioned to benefit a victim's fund.
Among them will be Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo -- a 2007 graduate of the school -- and the tributes will also be part of Topps Now cardboard now available.
MLB's founding documents will hit auction block via SCP next month
MLB's founding documents are hitting the auction block this spring as SCP Auctions is handling yet another historic sale.
This time, it's a 74-page hand-written artifact -- the original constitution of The National League of Professional Base Ball Clubs -- that outlines its objectives. Among them are to "encourage, foster and elevate the game of baseball, enact and enforce proper rules for the exhibition and conduct of the game, to make baseball playing respectable and honorable, to protect and promote the mutual interests of professional baseball clubs and professional baseball players and to establish and regulate the 'Baseball Championship of the United States.'"
This follows the sale of the 1857 “Laws of Base Ball” for $3.26 million one year ago today by the Laguna Niguel, Calif.-based company
