Ticket Stud or Ticket Dud? You decide ... here's Chapter 33

With these Ticket Stud or Ticket Dud stories I'm turning just a tiny bit of that energy just a few degrees away from cards (we'll still have plenty of them here) for a different kind of cardboard. What am I doing? Simple ... this is an occasional dip into some random ticket lots -- a show and tell showing something small with a story.

This time? A pair of no-frills tickets to what turned out to be a crazy game a decade ago.

Keep reading to see the details this time ... and tell me if you think it's a Ticket Stud or a Ticket Dud.

THE DETAILS ...
The Category:
Major League Baseball
The Event:
Washington Nationals at Chicago Cubs -- Aug. 22, 2013
The Results: Nationals 5, Cubs 4 ... in 13 innings
The Attendance: 29,393 at Wrigley Field in Chicago ... a four-hour, four-minute game.
The Price: $29 each
The Cost (for me): Pocket change as part of a bulk lot.

The Ticket Stud (Key Player): Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg -- 8 2/3 innings, eight strikeouts (no-decision) ... but also 2-for-4 with an RBI at the plate before it all unraveled for him late.
Others: Bryce Harper, Anthony Rendon (rookie), Ryan Zimmerman (HR), Anthony Rizzo, Brian Bogusevic (HR and big game), Donnie Murphy (late HR)

What's Buzz-worthy: I almost dipped into the football part of my stash box but we're not quite into that real season just yet. Instead, this pair of tickets from an August game of a decade ago got me to bite as the visuals aren't all that -- unless you're a 1974 Topps (with a touch to 1965) fan. But ... the box score revealed more so here we are. It's packed with notables now -- and more if you count reliable big-leaguers who aren't big names to collectors -- but most of them weren't involved with the drama that unfolded. Strasburg gave up four runs in the eighth and ninth (three in the ninth off an error and a homer) after what had been a strong game ... and then nobody scored a thing until the 13th when Denard Span scored on a ground ball back to the pitcher.

Stud or Dud? Visually, this one is a dud but there are a number of good names in the game and some interesting results in that box score. That gets this one to a borderline, no-frills Stud status for me ... mostly because all that open space up top or below could make this an interesting signed ticket for some of the established names or guys who made key plays to win it.
