eBay Buzz Weekly Update: Mike Trout's Heritage scorcher, game-used MLB gems, Freewheelin' Bob Dylan & Mia Wallace
Have you seen the latest cool or interesting items on eBay? If not, you just might see some of those here every week as we're launching a weekly version of our eBay Buzz pieces that pop up from time to time. We’ll spotlight some items that have a story or just wow us with how much interest it might have — and we’re not just talking baseball cards, either.NOT A ROOKIE CARD ... BUT, WHOA, IS IT SELLING LIKE ONE
The Item: 2012 Topps Heritage #207 Mike Trout
The Price: They're all pretty impressive -- both past and present
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Mike Trout doesn't have a Heritage Rookie Card but this one arrived a year later and it's selling like one both raw and graded. PSA 10 copies of this card have topped $300 while four-card raw lots have sold for as much as $250 recently. It's not short-printed but this collector never pulled one back then -- oddly -- when I pulled a few copies of pretty much everything else. You know what else is rare these days? Affordable 2012 Heritage hobby boxes and even retail boxes despite the rookie crop not being a strong one at all. (See the link below for a Hot Tip shot at some hobby packs to get in on this chase.) This card will be one to watch -- it's all over the place right now but selling way better than it should be -- as Heritage is the basic set for many of us retro-minded collectors to chase on an annual basis. The high-grade copies of this one aren't that easy -- centering and chipping can be an issue with this set -- so that's definitely driving some of the demand for this one but he's also a top player in MLB and this card does have a ton of natural appeal. Supply and demand has taken over here -- with a dash of crazy sauce, too -- but it tastes pretty good if you own a few of these.

The custom card options include Cleveland Indians and Cavaliers gear.
“Last year’s custom encapsulated card option was such a big success in Chicago that we are excited to bring the experience to collectors and sports fans in Cleveland, too,” said PSA Vice President Steve Sloan. “What better way to preserve your memory of being at the show than with a custom trading card from PSA?”
How's this for a hair-razing piece of Ovechkin memorabilia?
The biggest star on the Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals has shed his playoff beard -- and you can own the pieces that helped make that happen. No, seriously.
Alexander Ovechkin's Gilette razors -- two blades with unique images added to their handles -- are up for grabs on the NHL Auctions block as part of one-of-a-kind autographed photo displays.
Paul Bettany ink comes to Topps' Star Wars Authentics lineup
Topps has landed one of Hollywood's big names for its autograph lineup.Paul Bettany's newest role, Dryden Vos in Solo: A Star Wars Story, lands him among the ink in the Star Wars Authentics line with signed photos available now.
NHL social pioneer Willie O'Ree gets Hall of Fame call
There's just one wax box you need to find to land both the Rookie Card and the first certified autograph of one of the newest members of the Hockey Hall of Fame. He's Willie O'Ree and the set is 1997-98 Pinnacle BeeHive -- a release that came decades after his brief playing career ended. He played just two seasons for the Boston Bruins -- two games in 1957-58 and 43 in 1960-61 -- making him the first black player in NHL history. He had four goals and 10 assists in his second season.
His call to the Hall of Fame came Tuesday when he was announced as being a member of this year's class alongside Martin Brodeur, Martin St. Louis, Jayna Hefford, Alexander Yakushev and Commissioner Gary Bettman. O'Ree's honor comes in the category of being a "builder" of the game as he's worked as the NHL's Diversity Ambassador for the last 20 years.
eBay Buzz Weekly Update: One weird error, a 'used' Home Run Derby base, Jane Goodall, Axl Rose and a legendary bat knob

... BUT WHAT IF IT WAS DEREK JETER?
The Item: 1993 Upper Deck SP Michael Tucker-Marc Newfield "Mona Lisa" error card
The Price: You have to see it to (not) believe it.
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: One man's worthless printer's scrap is another's "Inverted Jenny" and that's a reference to a legitimately valuable error version of a postage stamp. In this case? Well, unless there's a huge Michael Tucker fan out there this is somebody wanting to (tongue in cheek) "test the market" or get some potential viral attention with a weird auction listing. (Mission accomplished.) Now, if it was a Derek Jeter card? Somebody would be buying ... no doubt about it.

Hey, Yankees fans ... need a Jonathan Loaisiga autograph? There's just one place -- 2018 Onyx Premium Platinum Elite
Question: When's the last time a New York Yankees rookie arrived with barely any baseball cards? (Has it ever happened? Can that really happen these days?)Answer: This year -- and that rookie is Jonathan Loaisiga.
The 23-year-old made his MLB debut and got his first win on Friday night, going five innings and striking out six. He only walked four and allowed just three hits against Tampa Bay -- and he almost had as many strikeouts as he does baseball cards.
It took some patience, but Buzz finally found a Mel Allen auto
You ever have one of those items that you need for your collection that could be found somewhat easily but you're either too picky about its quality, too finicky about the price tag attached or have such narrow wants that it might not be too easy of a find after all?I did, but I finally got over it a little bit while still getting what I wanted.
That item for me? An autograph from "The Voice of The Yankees" and former This Week in Baseball host Mel Allen. After years of casual looking from time to time, months of daily eBay searches with stuff that was either too pricey or not quite good enough for me (and my low price want), I finally found what I was looking for.
The National: Whose autograph would you grab first?
This year's National Sports Collectors Convention is set for Aug. 1-5 in Cleveland with a meaty roster of autograph guests signing for those who opt to get a ticket and get in line for an "inkredible" moment. Some of those signers are actually free if you're at the VIP reception on Wednesday or buy a VIP ticket package -- a bonus for taking the time to hit the entire show or buy the full package for all of the other bonuses -- but other signers will take some planning to land the ones you want.
It's tough to see everything at the show -- it's that big -- and the time it takes to work through autograph lines is valuable in that it impedes your shot at seeing it all. With that said, here are my picks -- one per day -- to grab off the autograph list. (Keep reading for the full signers list in a gallery at the end.)
Buzz List: Autographs for 2018 MLB Draft first-round picks
With the first round of the 2018 MLB Draft last night, a new crop of MLB hopefuls now have new collectors seeking their cardboard -- but this year there's a little bit of a challenge involved that could help make for a stronger card crop later. How? Interestingly, a number of the first-rounders and supplemental picks last night don't actually have cardboard yet. That's certainly not the norm in a world where USA Baseball players not even in high school yet have card appearances and signed certified autograph cards years before MLB might call and where other prep All-Star events spawn card sets of their own.
Here's a Buzz List rundown of who has ink and where ...

THE ROYAL WEDDING'S BIGGEST CARD
The Item: 2012 Cryptozoic Fringe Seasons 1-2 Autographs Meghan Markle
The Price: $999 (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Beginning tomorrow, this American actress will potentially be known as Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex as she's marrying into England's Royal Family. This is one of just a handful of trading card appearances for her in this Fringe set and this once was a relatively inexpensive signature. Now? It's pricey and a number of people will undoubtedly be interested in these cards as the international spotlight will be all over the story of how she's ended up the bride and everything that entails tomorrow. Members of the Royal Family are not permitted to sign autographs, so there won't be more to come on that front.
