Kobe Bryant's NBA All-Star jersey dominates at auction, doubling past record & Steph Curry's gamer, too
One of Kobe Bryant's final NBA All-Star Game jerseys got a big send-off on Thursday just like the star who wore it.
How? Via NBA Auctions.
The jersey was worn during the first half of his final All-Star Game on Feb. 14 in Toronto and sold for $100,040 after 74 bids -- basically doubling what is believed to be the previous high for a jersey sold on the site.
Panini America brings Player of the Day promo to NBA & makes some Hickory Pacers cardboard, too
It's nod to the past and the big screen, but one card in the forthcoming Panini NBA Player of the Day set might stand out to some collectors as different.
It's a Paul George card in the Indiana Pacers' "Hickory Pacers" uniforms worn a few times this season. Why? It's the 30th anniversary of the movie Hoosiers, an Indiana basketball staple, and that's one of the ways the Pacers are honoring the rich history of the game in the state on "Hickory Nights." It's a promotion that has resulted in big demand for Hickory items from the team.
Have the Hickory uniforms hit cardboard previously this season? Buzz hasn't seen every card but it's possible that this is the first. (Tweet Buzz or leave a comment if you have seen others.)
Now, on to the Player of the Day details ...

Buzz Q&A: 'Trading Cards' illustrator Cuyler Smith
A card show begins in Los Angeles tonight and lasts all the way until March 26 -- and you have a shot at owning any and all of the superstars in attendance as long as you're there early enough.
The difference? It's at an art gallery -- at Gallery 1988 (East) -- and the cards are prints from California illustrator Cuyler Smith, whose focus is the biggest names in the sports world ... err, the sports movie world.
Buzz caught up with Smith before his show, "Trading Cards," opens with a reception tonight at 7 p.m.
Q: How did you happen to focus on cards and card-size art?
A: It all started when I made a card for a group show at Gallery 1988 focusing on the films of Tom Hanks. I knew I wanted to do something different and the baseball card was a perfect fit for A League of Their Own.First Buzz: 2015-16 Panini Threads basketball cards

Panini reveals short-printed variations in 2015-16 Gold Standard
Base cards are becoming less and less of a find in high-end brands but Panini America has helped keep them on the minds of basketball collectors this year with photo variations in 2015-16 Panini Gold Standard.
And the company has disclosed which variations are the toughest pulls from the high-end product.

eBay Buzz: We all know Stephen Curry Rookie Cards are hot sellers ... but can they really be this hot?
Every once in a while, a player takes over the spotlight in a sport and leading non-collectors to be so intrigued that they battle for cardboard in online auctions without the typical (restraining) mindset of what something should sell for.
There's nothing wrong with that -- if they want it and they'll pay it, that's what it's worth to them right then.
Right now, Stephen Curry is that player, and, right now, one of those cards is his 2009-10 Topps Rookie Card -- one of 27 RCs that he has and one that has no frills and shows him in the simplest of forms. It's essentially a mugshot in a T-shirt or warmup jacket as Topps was finishing its run with the NBA license at that time.
This no-thrills piece of cardboard -- and its parallel counterparts -- are scorchers that just might surprise collectors right now.
Absolute Basketball redemptions bring "glass" back to packs
Collectors who have torn into boxes of the recently released 2015-16 Absolute Basketball set from Panini America may have found redemptions for cards that are new but also a throwback of sorts.

eBay Buzz: One big game, one big eyebrow ... one big price for Anthony Davis?
Maybe it's the single eyebrow. Maybe it's the chance at a pair of polo shirts. Maybe it's just the oldschool Hornets logo.
Maybe it's just because it's Anthony Davis that this pair of cards -- a duo of Panini America show promos limited to only 499 copies; the left being the first, the right being the last -- is worth a look.
Why is this post here? Maybe it's because of this asking price.

Aaron Gordon may not have won dunk contest, but his cards might be winner from NBA All-Star weekend
Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon may not have won the NBA's slam dunk contest during the All-Star weekend, but he's arguably the biggest winner on cardboard from the midseason showcase.
The story lines heading into this one revolved around the big names -- the biggest name and story being the final All-Star appearance for Kobe Bryant -- and the game's MVP was a big and well-collected name, too, in Russell Westbrook. Even the dunk contest winner, Zach LaVine, was already well-known with his status as last year's winner.
Gordon is the one who was introduced to the world -- or at least the world of casual basketball fans and collectors.
