Buzz Buys: Ronald Acuña Jr. RCs, Roger Maris memorabilia, Wolverine's creator, Make-A-Wish ink, Ruby Riott & more

Buzz buys and busts a lot of boxes right here for Buzz Breaks, but one of my goals just might be to rip fewer blasters this year and talk more about cardboard that I -- and you -- might like. One way to do that? Simple show and tell -- present a few pick-ups and say why they captured my attention. Would they capture yours? I'd be interested to know -- sometimes they might, sometimes they won't and that's fine. It's a buyer's market out there with plenty of options and bargains as well as high-end gems to chase.
So, with all that said, here are a few Buzz Buys ... and this time around it's a super-sized edition.

A CLASSIC YOU CAN FIND ... FOR NOW
The Card: Ronald Acuña Jr. 2018 Topps Heritage High Number RC (PSA 9)
The Price: $11.20
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This Atlanta Braves slugger had a strong start in April -- enough to get people looking at his Rookie Cards from last season once again and that's why I have him leading off here once again but with a different card. I didn't pick this one up since that hot start, but the PSA 10s and other high-grade cards out there have asking prices that are definitely getting more attention and pricier than when I nabbed this one. Raw copies are going for not a lot less than what I paid on the same site and ripping a box isn't going to guarantee you a well-centered copy. (All of mine pulled last year were a tad off.) This one is off top-to-bottom but that worries me far less than left-right centering, so I grabbed it at the price.

NEW "ROWDY" CARDBOARD
The Item: Ronda Rousey 2019 Topps WWE Road to WrestleMania Blue auto (/50)
The Price: $499.99 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This one might be a little over-priced since it's a rarer parallel but you never know who might be looking and clicking so that's one reason why you see this one here. Other reasons? It's a pricey potential find -- one of many -- from a box that guarantees ink every time and presently runs less than $55. It's also interestingly the first card I've seen using her nickname as part of her name. She appears to have ink from several parallels in this one so she should be in the mix from here on out as long as she keeps signing -- that's a good thing here and should be a good sign for releases to come.

Legendary comic book creator Stan Lee dies at age 95

A giant in the field of comic books is gone.
Stan Lee -- one of the creators behind a number of iconic super heroes and teams such as Spider-Man, The X-Men, The Incredible Hulk, Black Panther, Daredevil, The Fantastic Four, Thor, Iron Man, Silver Surfer and so many more -- has died. He was 95.
For years, Lee was a writer, editor and the publisher at Marvel Comics and in recent years he had worked in film, TV and other pop culture realms as a creator while also being king of cameos in many of the Marvel Studios films. His comic book career began in 1939.
"I used to think what I did was not very important," Lee told the Chicago Tribune in 2014. "People are building bridges and engaging in medical research, and here I was doing stories about fictional people who do extraordinary, crazy things and wear costumes. But I suppose I have come to realize that entertainment is not easily dismissed."
Highest-grade copy of Punisher's debut dominating at auction

One of the highest-graded copies of The Amazing Spider-Man No. 129 is on the auction block and ends tonight with an iconic but dark Marvel star the big reason why.No, it's not Peter Parker batting through his teen years ... it's the debut of Frank Castle, aka The Punisher.

LIVING IN AMERICA -- HUGE TOPPS LIVING SET INTEREST
The Item: 2018 Topps Living No. 6 Nick Markakis
The Price: $224.51 so far (after 22 bids) -- see what it's up to now
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: The market for 2018 Topps Living Set cards is going a little wonky for some players on eBay with the lesser-knowns and lower-volume cards from earlier weeks like this one commanding way more than you might think. Markakis sold only 2,678 copies. It shows that the interest is there from set collectors who must have it all. On the flip side, guys like Shohei Ohtani sold more than 20,000 copies and Ronald Acuna more than doubled that. Ohtani has been a steady seller for some who have opted to get theirs graded but demand for Topps Living isn't just living it's thriving right now.

The CGI isn't done? Who needs CGI when there are toys ... err, action figures.
That's the early sentiment in a new teaser trailer for Deadpool 2 that dropped today that lets "The Merc With a Mouth" introduce viewers to a big player in the Marvel Comics universe who's making his big-screen debut in this one.
It's Cable -- and he'll apparently be sparring with Wade Wilson and company in the film.

Duplicates: 0Buzz Movie Trailer Vote - Avengers: Infinity War (opens May 4)

The trailer for Avengers: Infinity War has arrived in advance of its arrival in May, and it's got everything you might expect and more. This one's clearly going to be darker, but it's also going to bring some groups together that haven't shared screen time before in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will be the 19th film as part of the continuity (away from the X-Men films, which are a different studio) when it arrives.
Check out the new trailer after the jump.
Buzz Movie Trailer Vote: The New Mutants (opens April 13)

The first trailer for The New Mutants has arrived in advance of its arrival in April, and it's pretty clear that this one won't be spawning from the latter days of the 100-issue series that evolved into a full-on super-team called X-Force.
This one's going to be darker -- apparently with a lot less spandex -- taking on a horror-film feel while introducing fans to a whole new crop of mutants known relatively well from the comic books.Check out the new trailer after the jump.
With Gambit film a go, you might need a certain X-Men issue soon

Hollywood news can have an impact on the collectibles world and comic book movies are the perfect example of what an influx of mainstream pop culture focus can do.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a Gambit film starring Channing Tatum is a go for Valentine's Day 2019, bringing the card-throwing, slick-talking member of the X-Men to the screen solo for the first time.Just like Deadpool, certain characters pick up steam with fans and news like this prompts added interest in first appearances of the characters and the one-of-a-kind original comic art that helped bring those books to life. A movie with Tatum in the main role? With apologies to Yogi Berra, it could be déjà vu all over again.
Newest POPTATERS take on 'Alien vs. Predator' in fun way
If you've been to a toy store lately, you might have seen one of a couple of new items that are throwbacks on the play front with some fun nods to pop culture that just might make them worthy for your collection. They're called POPTATERS made by PPW Toys and the newest releases are for a pair of famous science fiction franchises meeting the Mr. Potato Head galaxy for the first time.
Could Jada Toys' Nano Metalfigs be a super-cheap collectible hit?

Simplicity, portability, affordability and the chase.
This collector found himself in the toy aisle of a chain store this week and noticed something relatively new that hadn't caught my attention before. At a glance I was interested and instantly found myself scouring the pegs for something that ended up not being there.
It was a section of Jada Toys' new Nano Metalfigs that are available for a few different realms -- DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Disney/Pixar, Street Fighter, Harry Potter -- and they're tiny metal sculptures that come in packages just like the big kids' toys but they don't come with a big price.
They've probably been around for some collectible genres I don't watch all that closely, but the first wave of the new WWE figures caught my eye simply because they were so small ... and so cheap.

Marvel: The Hip-Hop Covers Vol. 2 hardcover book coming this fall

It's a simple idea -- a comic book take on an iconic album cover -- and it's going straight outta comics to the bookshelf once again this fall.
Set to drop in September is Marvel: The Hip-Hop Covers Vol. 2, a hardcover collection of past variant comic book covers all in one place. It's a virtual visual checklist of sorts for comics that are slightly tougher finds with nods to pop culture that give them some extra appeal beyond the comic shop.
